2015-2016 NHL Thread

Can someone explain to me how Dalton Prout doesn't get a suspension for multiple cross checks to the neck and face?  That's some quality player safety they have going on there.

So because the Pacific division is atrocious this year, Anaheim is about to be in a playoff spot if they hold on to their 4-1 lead on Winnipeg.

To put that into perspective a little more, they only have 2 more points than the Leafs and have played 1 extra game.

Florida's success is somewhat surprising to me.  It's really scoring by committee:

Jagr is really remarkable.  28 points in 36 games (after 18 in 20 with Florida after the trade last season) at 43 years old.

7 goals away from passing Brett Hull on the all-time goals list, and 21 points away from passing Gordie Howe on the all-time points list. That would put him 3rd all-time in both those categories. Barring an injury both of those will almost definitely happen this season.

I mean I know we've talked about this before, but there really isn't enough being said about what a legend Jaromir Jagr is.

If/when he retires he really should get the Jeter/Kobe sort of retirement tour around the league. For instance, in his last game in Toronto, they should have a ceremony where Gary Valk knocks the puck away from him.

1) Love the use of the word "if"

2) The ceremony would also have to involve Markov saluting him on his way out

Of course, I like talking tough about that but just looked it up to see Jagr's got 32 goals and 75 points in 55 career games against the Leafs.

Still, '99 forever!

Just picked up tickets to see Bruins v Canucks in Boston in a couple of weeks time. Other than booing both teams, anyone been to TD Garden and got any advice on decent bars/food places nearby etc?

I went to Boston about 10 years ago but I remember it was generally a decent enough area for finding generic-y sports bars. Anything more than that and I can't help you.

Oh, they're fond of Clam Chowder. So, you know, if you like creamy fish soups...

Jagr has as many all-star game appearances in the last 10 years as John Scott.  Just how impressive is he.

Cool thanks, that's all I needed to know! Generic sports bars will do the job, I want the full American sports experience ;D

Was anyone predicting the Sharks to be this bad?

I didn't, no, but I will say that I'm not super surprised that the three teams who tried "solving" their goaltending problems by overpaying for someone who looked pretty good in limited work for a much better team are struggling with it. I watched the Leafs do that a few too many times to think it's a strategy that tends to pay off.

Yes, they lost a good coach and there is a serious rift between some of the senior players and the management.

That's a team that is crying out for a significant "retool" and they can't because they handcuffed themselves with NMC and NTC on their aging former stars.

So Ovechkin is 3 goals away from 500 and doesn't turn 31 until next September. If he can continue the goal scoring pace he's played at over the past few years for a further 3-5 years...you've got to think that Gretzky's record is in play, no? He'd probably have to play into his 40's but if he can score 200-250 goals over the next five years and then 150-200 over the 6 or 7 after that? It's definitely possible, which isn't something I'd ever thought I'd say.
