2015-2016 NHL Thread

Do the Sens really believe they can make the playoffs after this Phaneuf deal?  They're 5 points back, the teams in the wild card spots have games in hand, and there's 3 other teams to jump too.  This is like a fan-appeasing move that the Leafs management would have done 5-6 years ago.  Optics of making a push for the playoffs.  They would really need to go on a miracle run like they did last year with the hamburgler, how often does that happen?

I bet they feel like they have a better chance of it with Phaneuf vs. Michalek, Cowen and Greening, both this year and next. Considering that they claim to lose money every year they miss the playoffs, they may have a real financial need to at least be in the race until the very end.

The world cup of hockey "young guns" team. Say team Canada wanted McDavid on their roster, is he allowed or does he have to play for the young guns because of his age?

He would have to play for the young guns team, yeah.

I think the best player from each country should be on their countries team regardless of age.

Sure, but it's not like this is the Olympics or anything. If the NHL wants to seriously use a young guns team then they have to give them a chance to be competitive. If you made it so McDavid/MacKinnon/Eichel/Jones/Ekblad were playing on the Canadian/American teams then they wouldn't stand a chance.

Takes away a bit of the patriotism for me. Definitely not like the Olympics.

But even assuming that happened people would be voting for Sid the story will be about how he single-handily turned the Pens season around so he's a true "MVP". Kane's offseason stuff will have nothing to do with it.

I think that if another really viable candidate emerges then Kane will lose some votes because of it but, yeah, Crosby would have to close the gap in a hurry.

I have to imagine Karlsson will be getting a decent amount of votes.

Habs down 5-4 to Buffalo with just under a minute left and the Sabres score into an empty net with the help of a linesmans skate. I think Subban has every right to be incensed about that one. Especially since 2 points there would have put them close to playoff contention.

I understand the anger, but, unfortunately for Subban, there's no rule against what happened.

I used to get upset about that stuff until I started to view it like it should be viewed, part of the game.  The refs/linesmen are part of the playing surface and just like there can be weird bounces off the end boards, sometimes the puck will hit them affecting play.

The boards don't have a responsibility to try and get out of the way. It looks like the linesman didn't even make an effort.

I'm pretty sure he thought it was by him already when it hit him.

I'm not sure what the issue is, the linesman clearly isn't going to try to be hit, just like that linesman in that Canada-US women's game in the Olympics wasn't trying to interfere with the puck.  They do these things hundreds of times they probably don't even think about it.

Maybe Subban should try to defend the net after that instead of flapping his arms around.  It sucks and I'd be pissed too if it happened to my team, but it's part of the game.

We lost a game in a similar way and that was the ref's first comment was he is part of the playing surface. The next game when i drilled him with a wrist shot in the @$$ he threatened me with a penalty....I tried reminding him he was part of the playing surface...LOL

Instead of blaming the linesman, he should have directed it toward his teammates for sucking so much. At least, he (Subban) shows some passion about losing.
