2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs - General Discussion

Kadri may ramp up some nastiness and physical play in the playoffs...that would give the team more value from him than we have seen lately..

Yeah, once he starts playing against the same person shift in and shift out after a game or 2 Kadri will find someone to go after hard.

Anyway, I've seen a number of complaints directed toward Kadri in the last little bit and I really do think they are mostly unfair. Last season he scored 55 points in 80 games. This season he's at a 48-point pace over 82 games. Considering that he's gone from 2C to 3C minutes that's still pretty good.

At 5-on-5 he has 28 points in 72 games, comparable to his 32 points in 80 games last season. On the powerplay he has 13 points in 68 games, which is 5 points behind his 19 in 78 games he had last season. Granted he's getting a lot more PP time this season but I'm not sure how he's supposed to get points there when the PP system generally doesn't have the puck go to him.

Regardless, we were bound to see some sort of drop in Kadri's impact on the team with Tavares' arrival, but I think he's handled the situation pretty fine.

This will never not be amazing.

That goal he scored the other night at least gives you an inkling of how it could have happened.

You're supposed to respond with Nice, Very nice, or even a Borat gif.

Sparks' confidence is shot; Hutchinson probably won't even get to play (but will get paid-ish).

This leaves the Marlies in a bit of a lurch as Sparks is not eligible to play for their playoffs even if sent down.

The Marlies won their Cup last year.  At this point, it's all hands on deck for the big boys' club.

Apparently Sparks' equipment isn't even with the team. He's going to workout alone with the goalie coach. If that is the case say hello to the new backup.

I don't mean to amplify the drama, but sharing this here is a bit more like filing paperwork if we're being honest. I think (and hope) Sparks is simply being given some time off to get away from the Toronto grind (remember what Gardiner said after last season?) to rest and reset and prepare. Sparks has said plenty of times that he wears his heart on his sleeve and this fanbase is all about picking away at raw nerves.

I also wonder if maybe there's an injury or something more personal going on.

I feel bad for Sparks, he seems like the kind of guy who is very emotional and lets everything affect him. Probably in his own head a lot.  I still remember his first ever game where he recorded a shutout and was in tears during the interview because he was so caught up in the moment.  It goes both ways for him, the good and the bad.  I hope for his sake he can turn it around, he seems like a really good kid.

Calvin Pickard was a huge, steadying influence on him last season. His positivity was infectious. This year, he?s gone and instead Sparks gets to see Babcock?s scowl and the full Toronto fanbase frothing at the mouth about what a poop show he has been.

Expand to the full thread, but this is a salient point.
