2018/2019 Goal Predictions

Call me nuts but I think there'll be an unexpected presence in our top 6 goalscorers. Whether because of injuries or line shuffling, I think someone else might squeak in there with one of those weird 26-14 sort of seasons.

I don't doubt that.  Who would your candidates for that be?

I lean Johnsson, mostly because they seem to have the bumper spot on one of the PP units lined up for him.

Maybe Brown.

That seems like the best bet but I wonder if Hyman doesn't maybe have one of those seasons where everything goes in off his backside.

Going back to that Yost article, so the takeaway is that the Leafs could challenge WASH 09/10 if we get as many PPs?

Given the well-known and endemic bias of the NHL's refs against Toronto, seems unlikely.

OK, that was a sarcasm.  Unleash the KDAP and we are making history.

I'm not exactly a Leivo guy but if we're looking for darkhorses he's a prime candidate if he gets the right opportunity (especially on the PP).

I can't tell, but I'm pretty sure that's sarcasm there.

Possible.  Averaged 152 shots per season last two years.  Needs, what, 17% shooting to hit 25g at that rate.  Without PP time its doubtful, but Tavares has had quite the effect on his line-mates over the years.  And Marner is crafty enough to shoot it off his backside (EDIT:  on purpose, often).

He's probably near the bottom of my list of surprising like that unless there are lots of injuries.  He doesn't shoot a ton.  And I think he's going to see even less PP time than he has the last two seasons (where he was 8th among forwards in PP time both seasons).  Those minutes are going to go to whomever wins the 4th line LW battle (Ennis vs Leivo) or Kapanen.

Listen, we're talking maybes on top of maybes, but I think Nik was suggested that the dark horse 25 goal guy might get there due to injury.

So don't get me wrong, I doubt it too, but he's scored 20, and his SH% is decent...put him with a Tavares and you never know.  Actually, put me on a line with Tavares and I might break 20.

I predict that Johnsson will score 30 goals this year, but have two called back by bad officiating.  No half goals allowed

Calm down... Nylander will sign.

The joke's on you.  Nylander actually signs a nice deal for him, and then doesn't score a goal all season.  ;D

Matthews 46 goals
Tavares 38 goals
Kadri 28 goals
Marleau 28 goals
Nylander 27 goals
Marner 23 goals
Hyman 18 goals
Johnsson 16 goals
Kapanen 14 goals

No faith in Leivo?  Or the Leafs being able to count to 12?

I see what you did here.

Well, some (particularly those at Editor-In-Leaf) do not dispute Matthews scoring 65+ goals.  In fact, with the math being done and Matthews being fitter, faster, and stronger by his own admission, it is not unreasonable for him to even reach 75.

I was going to actually write down 60 but opted for the more conservative estimate of 55.  :)

Tavares with 65?  Kadri 45?  Dunno but I think that's a tad over what many think it will be.  While I posted Tavares with 40 & Kadri with 26, it's doubtful Johnny T will go as high as your revision.  As for Kadri, this might just be the year Nazem scores his highest goal totals ever in his career.

I like that you are being bold with your predictions.  We'll see how it plays out.
