Brutal... the hockey fans are getting robbed here. I am positive we will be forced fed the World Cup. As a fan of the Maple Leafs, the only meaningful winning I have experienced has come via Team Canada. Sakic/Kariya/Lemeuix, the release of the caged gorillas for the Canada 7 Russia 3 game in Vancouver, the Golden Goal, the 2014 defense... I am totally bummed about this.hockeyfan1 said:Canada's Men's 2018 Olympic hockey squad will have Wilie Desjardins as it's bench boss and Sean Burke as GM, as annoinced by Hockey Canada. Desjardins will have assistant coaches Dave King, Scott Walker, and Craig Woodcroft (KHL & Swiss League-experienced). Martin Brodeur will also be a part of the management team.
As for rosters, in light of the fact that the NHL has effectively closed the door on Olympic participation by it's players, Team Canada will need to look elsewhere, and by that Hockey Canada will evaluate the players as per the following rosters that will be participating in a total of five tournaments -- starting from next month (early August), and culminating with the Spengler Cup Tournament in December.

Of all the things I didn't like about the World Cup, the format wasn't one of them. Team North America was a blast to watch.

I'd take it even a step further. The evidence that hosting the Olympics does real legitimate harm to economies, and in particular the poorer parts of the host cities, has long had me teetering on the edge of thinking they're really something that should be actively boycotted.
That combined with their history of really appalling apolitical decisions and willingness to operate as propaganda arms of fascist regimes(read up on the history of the torch relay) make it a pretty tough moral decision to defend.

Don't forget the exploitative sex trafficking surrounding the whole event.

If you genuinely care about what these athletes are doing, whether it's figure skaters or shot putters or whatever, then all of those sports have World Championships that you can enjoy without supporting a corrupt, crypto-fascist organization.
