I think refusing to wear it would be enough of a statement. Throwing it into the stands was a bit much. That being said, he's a kid and kids make stupid decisions.

Wtf? Even guys who simply just took the medals off got suspensions? What a joke.
edit: Apparently a bunch of those guys aren't even eligible for the tournament next year or in the case of Rasmus Dahlin will obviously be too busy to play, so that's funny.

I understand why it happened, I just don't think it's acceptable behavior in a reasonable society.
Respect for the occasion and civility towards everyone who has worked to make this thing happen isn't a lot to ask for. For some that tournament was the culmination of a life's work and these petulant kids couldn't make it through the medal ceremony without acting out.
The adults deserve even more severe punishment.
