One week to go until what might be the messiest NHL entry draft ever.

July 23-24

Draft Rankings can be found consolidated on EliteProspects

And we're off to an inauspicious start

Oh good. Well, if there's one group of people who I want to be harsh judges of other people's "character", it's NHL executives.

Obviously, this doesn't in any way absolve him of blame from his previous actions, but this does at least show some potential maturity and growth on his part, and that should be applauded.

(Though, the cynic in me is telling me this is all just so that he can try to get to near the top of the draft next year and get a max bonus contract)

The fact that the victim asked for a written apology and he sent a text message as the apology?.and that his representative was demanding off the record conversations to promote how vindictive the woman was makes me question how much credit I?m going to give him for this.

Words are wind. It's a slight step up on Mitchell Miller if that's worth anything (not really). Any restitution or actions of contrition should be directed to the victim, rather than the hockey world.

There's not one but two Victor Hedman's in this draft apparently.

Probably going to take a run at Tony DeAngelo in free agency as well.

So just to be clear, we're scrapping the criminal justice system, rehabilitation isn't valid or possible?

I think the kid is a scumbag for what he did.

The victim suffered an unconscionable wrong and if it was my daughter I'd likely want to kill him.

But why is the response here so venomous?

Toxic masculinity is disgusting and needs to be challenged and changed, most reasonable people agree with this.

If it was your son, how would you want him to deal with it?

1. Apologize.
2. Face any consequences in criminal or civil court.
3. Undergo comprehensive counseling to address any mental processes or conditioning that led him to think this behavior was acceptable.
4. Be part of the conversation publicly that helps address toxic masculinity and help ensure this happens less often to other young women.
5. Work with victims advocacy groups, in any way possible to help amplify their voice and make meaningful change.

I just don't understand why everyone needs his blood on their hands.

I say all this as a victim of abuse myself and having had a female member of my family subjected to horrific abuse too. I understand the rage first hand, but you can't live there and fixate only on the crime.
