2021 NHL Entry Draft

Sorry for what you and your family member had to go through, WIGWAL :( I understand there's a process and should be opportunity for rehabilitation if the perpetrator evinces remorse and takes action to correct and educate.

I think the issue here is not so much the crime itself, but how it's being positioned and really the message it sends out to. Getting drafted is an honour and privilege for the hockey players who worked hard, made the sacrifices. Bergevin, and the Montreal ownerhsip and leadership group, are implicitly condoning that this behaviour, while unacceptable, is actually pretty acceptable if you're tall and play okay.

The victim is now re-framed, as they almost always are, as just some character growth obstacle in this kid's story, not a whole actual person that deserves dignity and justice.

For Bergevin and the Montreal org, it just looks like another entry on the list of hockey before humanity. Hey, Slava Voynov is suddenly available (because he nearly murdered his wife), we should get on that. Oh Sean Burke is good at hockey so we should get him (also good at assaulting his spouse). Boy, this Alex Galchenyuk is such a distraction to our team (for daring to be a victim of assault by his partner).

Matthew Knies?a player who is college bound.  His scouting report highlights his puck handling ability but also says he lacks skating speed and does too much with the puck resulting in turnovers.

Bigger, slower Marner?

Sitting at 12:40 and we still aren?t out of the 2nd round.  The NHL needs to fix the draft

6'2", willing to go to the dirty areas - I feel like it could be a high risk, high reward pick.  Could be a Chris Krieder, could be a Tyler Biggs.

I'd rather have to pull the reigns back on a player then try to get him to do more. Is this the kid that Matthews knows?

He's from Phoenix, plays USHL, and named Matthew, so very likely

Knies is a versatile forward who can play pretty much anywhere up front, but projects more as a LW at the next level. He?s also quite talented in transition, as he can pick up the puck behind the net and absolutely fly through the neutral zone, building up speed using crossovers as he moves through the neutral zone. Knies likes to break the play out wide when entering the offensive zone, cut around the defender, and then drive hard to the net.

Knies has a really high motor when it comes to driving to the net. He?s capable of taking on 3 or more defenders at a time with the puck on his stick, allowing his teammates to exploit the added space in the offensive zone. Though Knies may be considered more of a pass-first player with incredible vision, don?t sleep on his shot. He has a wicked wrist shot that he can deliver with speed and accuracy.

I think he will be playing alongside fellow Leafs pick, Mike Koster, at Minnesota.

Sounds more like a larger Hyman-style player, actually, with a shot.

Just to be clear I know absolutely nothing about Knies and just saw a report saying he holds onto the puck too long amd it leads to turnovers.  Just being glib.

He seems like a decent kind of pick where he probably projects as more of a bottom 6 forward but has a skill set that could make him a top 6 guy

And my dream of taking the best available CHL Centre dies another death.
Sorry I haven't followed this draft at all. Who are we talking about?

Nobody in particular. That's just always who I want the Leafs to take and they never do.

This is difficult to watch (because of the lighting), and also if you're the PP team that just got dummied by giving one guy like 6 chances.
