I wouldn't be completely opposed to Murray at 50% retained if there's an additional asset coming our way too. He was at least able to get his save percentage back up right around league average after a pretty horrible start last season.

Also his high danger save percentage was decent during his time with the Sens.  If I am not mistaken I think it was better than Campbells.  I think that is the one thing that concerns me about Jack Campbell.  His low high danger save percentage.
I'm with you on that point.

Eh, I'm not super keen to have him at 3.125M.  That's still a really expensive 1B
Maybe they can get a 3rd team involved to eat 25%? Wouldn't mind seeing Murray/Hill or Stolarz combo.

I read an article on it and it made sense to me.  On a good team you need a goalie that has a good high danger save percentage.  Chances are if your team is good, in most games you are going to limit the shots.  That means that the highest threat is when the opposing team actually has a good scoring opportunity, because in theory you are limiting those chances.  If the goalie you have can't consistently make those saves, then you are at a disadvantage because it means your team has to work extra hard to make up for that on the offensive side of the puck.  In the Leafs case I think they have the talent to outscore a lot of problems over the course of the season as they play a wide range of teams with varying degrees of talent.  However, when they make it to the playoffs, and they play a team that has a good high danger save percentage goalie, it means the Leafs have to work a little harder to score, and that is why they come up just a little short.

The scouting report on this Hildeby goalie is encouraging.  Cross fingers.

Never know with goalies, this dude has been passed over twice already.  Might make sense taking older goalies, players are hard enough to project at 18, let alone the goalie position which is just random voodoo.

Lol. Pretty much. Like, he does play the goaltending position, but so does the neighbourhood kid down the street.

Interesting final pick. He put up a decent amount of points for a 17yr old. Third leading scorer behind a couple 19yr olds.

So people are talking about this Logan Morrison kid that went undrafted.  Had 100 points during the year, and was playoff OHL MVP scoring 39 points in 19 games.  Surprised not 1 team even used a 7th on this guy?  The scouts all know something?

Well, for one, I'm guessing they all know that he's 20.

So are a bunch of other players taken in the 7th round today that don't have nearly as impressive numbers.  Just weird that the guy would have such a great season and nobody even takes a flier.

Guess the Leafs can sign him after he turns 20 tomorrow!

For what it's worth, I couldn't find any forwards taken in the 7th round as old as him. I didn't look through them all admittedly, I skipped foreign guys whose numbers aren't really comparable and US high schoolers(who probably aren't 20) and NCAA guys(who wouldn't have the comparable age advantage), but I only found two overagers. One guy who missed all of last year and almost all of this year and another guy who's a few months younger, bigger and had better goal scoring numbers.

I'm just not sure his numbers are all that impressive for a guy his age in the OHL.

There were a couple of older forwards taken in the 6th round from the WHL, is that league considered a lot better than the OHL?  Just not sure what separates guys like this in the scouts eyes, they're all huge question marks as it is. I guess he can be offered a walk on to anyone's camp, but then all those 20 year olds are in a similar boat.  Not that I really care, just curious what separates guys this low in the draft.

Not better but I've always thought of it as a slightly lower scoring league than the OHL which might explain it a bit.

But I think we've kind of hit on something here now that we've gone from "a bunch" to "a couple". The main reason he wasn't drafted was his age. It's rare for teams to take a gamble on guys in their draft +2 years.

But, like you say, some do. So what's the difference? If you asked me to guess, I'd imagine that when you get down into the 7th then teams are looking more for specialists than they would be imagining they might draft a top or even middle 6 forward. So having one particular attribute, which might be size or speed or toughness or a good shot, is probably seen as more valuable at that point in the draft than being the sort of player who at 20 can put up good scoring numbers just by virtue of age and being a reasonable all around player.
