Penguins vs. Maple Leafs - Mar. 2nd, 1:00pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

TBH..... this game would be 5 to 3 Leafs if Stolarz was in net. Definitely not critical of Woll. But Stolarz is bigger and stronger when rushed on.

I know we are missing Tanev but if the Leafs core doesn't sh*t the bed again in the playoffs I think defence is more of a priority. The trio of Myers, Benoit and Timmins don't impress me.

Odd game. Glad they got the 2 points.
Nylander's vision and timing to use a crossing Pens player for a screen was exquisite. The guy is an artist sometimes when it comes to scoring. Putting it all together on the fly ..

Beyond 700th point for Matthews:
Matthews passed Sittler into 2nd place in all-time Leafs goal scoring, 30 goals behind Sundin
Nylander passed Pulford for 10th place in all time Leafs goal scoring
Marner passed George Armstrong into 5th place in all time Leafs scoring behind only Sundin, Sittler, Keon & Salming

Yet people don’t want to re-sign them all. We have 3 of the top 10 scoring Leafs OF ALL TIME on the roster at the same time. How can you not enjoy that?

(Well, 2 of the top 5 top scorers and 2 of the top 10 goalscorers or whatever the actual precise version of my hyperbolic statement is)

There's a world where all 3 spend their entire careers in Toronto and finish 1-2-3 in franchise scoring. That'd be amazing, but also ultimately wouldn't matter in some way without that other thing.

Very true but down the road, it does matters. We're lucky that we get to watch these guys game in game out. Hopefully they can have some playoff success.

Sundin never won it, but I still remember lots of things he did - especially the hat trick to get to 500 goals.

But he also had playoff moments - the Carolina extra skater game 5 (or was it 6?) last minute elimination staving goal.

I take your point, but there’s so much more to winning the playoffs including luck.

I’d take a few deeper runs and moments like that Sundin one from a few of them for sure, though.
