2023 Offseason Trades & Signings

I can't wait for the owners to insist on limits for NTC and NMCs in the next CBA negotiations because of how restricting they are.

There's been rumours for a couple days now that Tarasenko to Carolina was all but officially done, and then a flurry of news today regarding him:

Will be really odd seeing Tarasenko in a Sens jersey.

It's odd seeing anyone choose to play for an organization that has a giant zero for a logo and a GM who most proud of the fact that they are indeed a team.

Ottawa is such an odd team for me.  If they get something good back for DeBrinicat and add Tarasenko it doesn't seem like a terrible roster.  I don't love their bottom 6 but Giroux, Tkachuk, Stutzle, Norris, Batherson, Tarasenko is a solid top 6.  I do like Chabot/Chychrun/Sanderson at the top of their defence and Korpisalo COULD work out for them in net.  I still don't see them in the playoffs but they are at least competitive.  Mind you their coach still sucks, I have no idea why DJ Smith is still in charge.

Took the decision out of Treliving?s hands

Family stability, if I'm reading between the lines accurately, while staying involved with the game and the Flames, helped push the decision across the line. Sure beats getting shuttled on buses in the AHL grind trying to cling on to the nadir of a playing career.

Zadina was owed $1.83mil this upcoming season and $2.73mil in 24/25. He requested a trade from Detroit but Yzerman couldn't find a partner. He then cleared waivers signifying nobody wanted him at his current AAV ($1.825mil for 2 more seasons).

He's giving up that guaranteed contract in the hopes of landing with a team on a cheap show-me deal. Not something you see very often at all.

I think he'd look pretty good on Kampf's wing... or even Tavares' if we're just going to go nuts

Unless Knies is going on the 4th line (he's not) there isn't room for him anywhere in the top-9 (as the roster stands right now at least).

If we want to throw him into the competition for the 12th forward alongside Holmberg and McMann, sure. But I'd imagine he'll go to a team that offers him a better chance to play.

That's what I suspect, too, but if he's open to starting the year in the AHL rebuilding/finding his game, the Marlies could be a prime destination.

Maybe, although I think he'd be a lot less likely to clear waivers at training camp when he's presumably on something like a 1-year league minimum contract. Especially if it's the Leafs doing the waiving.

In season, maybe. At the end of camp? That I'm less convinced about. That's when players tend to sneak through.

EDIT: Probably a moot point, any ways, as he's apparently not super open to going to the AHL (at least, as things stand right now).

Kopitar is going into the final season of his 8-year, $10mil AAV contract. So this covers the 24/25 and 25/26 seasons. He'll be 37 years old when the 24/25 season begins.

Makes it seem like he'll probably go his whole career just playing for the team who drafted him. Don't see that a ton these days and especially not for guys who are maybe just a notch below that superstar level.
