2024-25 Marlies General Thread

I think it is worth noting:

Marlies AHL rankings
.781 win% is 2nd
21.8% PP is 6th
88.9% PK is 3rd
Their GAA is near to the top of the league
Their GFA is above average.

Their goaltending is very good
Akhtyamov 7GP 1.68 GAA .935 save%
Murray 5GP 2.35 GAA .914 save%
Hildeby 4GP 2.40 GAA .910 save%

The callups coming up and playing well is not exactly a fluke.

Crazy comeback
Down 5-1, Murray comes in and shuts out the rest of the way
His .919 save% and 2.18 GAA leads the Marlies goalies.

Steeves has another goal => 14 goals in 14 GP, leads the AHL with 1.5 ppg (12 or more games played)

Alex Nylander answers his demotion with 2 goals and 2 assists to tie the game at 5-5 with less than a minute to go
And then gets the hattrick to win the game in OT

William Villeneuve with 4 assists

Can't make it up any better than that.

Hildeby with the shutout and 1st star today
Goals from Steeves, Quillan and Minten (empty net)
Was at the game. Hildeby was very good. Made some great saves. Very calm great side to side. Minten looks fantastic. Notice him almost every shift. Grebs not too bad. Steeves was very good. Nylander looked terrible. Steeves is so much better in terms of hustle and overall play.

Marlies beat Belleville 4-3
Hildeby stopped 35 of 38,
Hildeby on the season: .916 save%, 2.42 GAA

Villeneuve, 1st star with a goal and assist. He seems to be coming on
Kyle Clifford, after missing all of October and most of November with an injury, scored his 3rd goal in 5 games.

Alex Steeves leads the AHL with 1.40 ppg (12 or more games played)
He's 3rd in goal scoring with 10-11 fewer games played due to his callup to the Leafs
He's 7th in points with 10-11 fewer games played due to his callup to the Leafs

Captain Logan Shaw was selected to play for Canada on the Spengler Cup team and was player of the game today.
There are a number of ex-Leafs or ex-Marlies on that team

I love the Spengler Cup, it’s on my hockey trip bucket list. Just need to convince the family they want to go to Davos for Christmas some year…

I like seeing the different European teams but in terms of Canada I like seeing guys who maybe haven’t made it to the very top getting a chance to get rewarded with international caps.

Last year the third Canadian goalie was from my team the Belfast Giants which was a nice reward for a guy who had a decent career in Europe
