2024-25 Marlies General Thread

I like seeing the different European teams but in terms of Canada I like seeing guys who maybe haven’t made it to the very top getting a chance to get rewarded with international caps.

Last year the third Canadian goalie was from my team the Belfast Giants which was a nice reward for a guy who had a decent career in Europe
There are a bunch of Canadian guys - some I cheered for - many who had their dreams fall a little short - getting to proudly represent their country.
There is sort of a smaller town feel to it. Not a pile of glitz and hype.
They have some entertaining games.
It is a little hockey treasure.
I don't have time to watch lots of it. But I try to catch a couple of the Canadian games and follow it in the media/online

They lost the game to a team they had beaten 6-3 two days ago. They're out.
Straubing Tigers who beat them have 9 Canadians, 3 who were their top 3 scorers in the game.

At the Marlies game....Artur Akhtyamov got hurt near the end of the 1st...allowed 3 goals on 9 shots or something like that...Def not great goals. Murray in and is solid, calm.

Minten and Grebs continue to impress with 1G, 1A each. Nylander has 1 apple but is the weak link on that line tonight.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Minten and Grebs back with the Leafs before seasons end.

3-3 after 2....27-14 shots on goal in favour of Marlies

*update....they crapped the bed in the 3rd and ended up losing 6-3. Terrible defensive effort.

Not so great to see Akhtyamov dinged up, but hopefully it lets Murray find a groove for his next call up.

Minten and Grebyonkin had been on a mini slump in Dec, so kicking off the new year with some production should go to their legs. Both scored driving the slot and pumping in quick shots.

Quillan also hit the scoresheet, and I think he can replace Holmberg when the time comes with more natural centring capabilities:

The Marlies did get wrecked the rest of the way (losing 6-3) to the ugly helmets.

Murray has been their best goalie, 2.07GAA, .919SV% and looked very good last night despite the 2 goals. One was a blast from the point(cross pass one timer) off the post and the 2nd was a shortside off the post and nobody took the man for a tap in. He made some nice saves including a breakaway. Like I said he looked calm. Artur has struggled for a while now and his SV% has dipped below .900.
Minten and Grebs were on for 4 GA, (1EN). One was a direct result of Nylander coughing it up 3 times on 1 shift and Artur letting in a very savable shot. The other goal was also very savable shot so it wasn't like they messed up on that one. The 3rd was blown coverage on the 2nd goal on Murray. The line is getting PP1 treatment and Minten also PKs. He looks good despite the -2 last night
