3 Florida Panthers vs 6 New Jersey Devils

Look for Marty to rekindle some magic one last time and Kovalchuk finally makes it to the second round. There penalty kill was dangerous all year.

Florida has some horses but no one to lead.

NJ in 6.

Their records:
Florida 38-26-18 (adjusted to 32-26-7 after shootout outcomes are taken out)
New Jersey 48-28-6 (adjusted to 36-28-2 after taking out their 12-4 SO record)

Really haven?t watched much of anything from either of these two teams this year but I would expect that NJ takes it by virtue of Parise and Kovalchuk rising to the occasion. Kovy has a chip on his shoulder and Parise has the motivation of being a UFA.

NJ in 5

New Jersey in 6.

No not just the Brodeur factor, but the fact that, well, New Jersey is back into the thick of things.  Who can go wrong with a lineup that includes Kovalchuk, Parise, Zajac, Elias, et al., all good opportunistic scorers.

The Panthers?  Sure they won their division, but their numbers aren't something to get too excited over, unless one remembers that this is a team that was left out of playoff contention last season (with a different squad of players).  This year, GM Dale Tallon turned this team around 360* and the results speak for themselves.

If these Panthers are for real, can they eliminate the Devils?  Odds indicate nyet.  Anything can happen, of course.  We'll see.

I'm going against the grain with this series and predicting Florida will win.  It seems the past couple of seasons Brodeur has more or less choked in the play-offs, whether it be do to some nagging injuries, his age or a combination of the two.  Plus, I think Florida will be hungrier for it, with more to prove.  I won't be at all surprised to be wrong though, New Jersey does have more high end talent.

Did I read that right? Jersey outshot Florida 26-9 in the first period of Game 1?

And took a 3 goal lead in the process, yes.

Saw that. 3-0 leads after 1 aren't all that unusual. Seeing 26 shots is a little more so.

Shots after 1 period in Game 1 - NJ 26, Fla 9
Shots after 1 period in Game 2 - NJ 4, Fla 3

That was the level of boring I was expecting from this series. :)

Florida with 5 shots in the first couple minutes of the 2nd, though - that's what a 2-man advantage will do. :)

Edit: 3-0 Panthers late in the second. With the way these two teams play, I would suggest that this series will be tied at the end of the night.

2 minutes into the 3rd and it's a 1 goal game.

This series literally gets zero updates from any of the sports people I follow on twitter, whereas every other series gets updates every game.  I forgot it was even on.

Isn't there pretty wide speculation that both of these teams will file for bankruptcy in the off-season?
