AHL Franchise News

The new Tuscon team will go by the Roadrunners name. 3rd team in the AHL to use that name after Toronto and Edmonton. The name has some history in Arizona as several Phoenix based teams used that name in the IHL and ECHL.

Meanwhile, the team that moved into Springfield to replace the one that moved to AZ will go by Thunderbirds. According to the press release, they choose the name based on some Air force connections.

The name has some history in the area with the IHL and ECHL. No word though if ACME Industries will be a sponsor of both teams though  :P

Beep! Beep!

Looks like the Habs are going to be following the Leafs' lead in keeping their AHL team local. They'll be moving from St. John's to Laval.

The intention of moving to Laval for 17-18 was made clear when they brought the team to St. John's. I just wonder how much the attendance suffers with it being made official.

I wonder how many teams DON'T have their AHL affiliate within a couple hours driving range now. It's gotta be a pretty small number at this point.

Bender, my new favorite saying is Whale Sperm, whether for a condiment or a hair gel. Or perhaps a new Le Corden Bleu sauce for fine French food.
As I have been up close  (within at least 5 feet) to a few 50 ton humpbacks I do have respect for the massive Mammals. And have filmed pods of up to 20 off the Cabo coast.
