Andrew MacDonald to Flyers

Not really, he's not very good.  It's pretty 'meh'.

You're kidding me right?  NHL Leader in Blocked Shots by a LARGE Margin.  He's just about the only useful defenseman on that team.

So that tells me he's on the ice for a lot of opposition shots against.  Not really a positive.

Just a slight correction:

StapeNewsday: #Isles get 2014 3rd rounder and a 2015 2nd rounder for MacDonald from the Flyers.

Yes. He's very good at getting in the way of the other team's shots because he's not very good at stopping them from having the puck.

Yeah.. because he's the ONLY reason the Islanders give up alot of shot opportunities  ::)

That said, I take my statement back.  The only other useful defenseman on that team is Travis Hamonic, who I'd rather have.

Well I never said that did I?

I never said he's bad, just not very good.  Maybe his deployment with the Isles has been dragging him down, I don't know.

Given that it's the Islanders making the deal, i'll just assume they gave up something decent for nothing until proven otherwise.

On mostly bad teams, usually defensemen have a hard time looking good so I don't blame you for not being impressed by him.

SCOUTING REPORT
Assets: Moves the puck out of the defensive zone efficiently. Is a poised defender with a good hockey brain who can log an awful lot of ice time. Smart and technically strong, he also has some offensive ability.
Flaws: Is somewhat prone to injury. Also, he would be best served to start playing a more consistent game in the physicality department in order to maximize his shutdown acumen at the highest level.
Career Potential: Mobile big-minute defenseman.

His team isn't great, but when he's off the ice the Isles outshoot their opposition 1795-1633 and when he's on the ice they get outshot 1190-912.  Not all his fault, but he's not helping and at most is a 3rd pairing d-man.  At worst, he's getting killed this year.

Hamonic and de Haan are both better.

Those scouting reports are virtually useless.

Just like Andrew MacDonald #nailedit

Oh come on.  I know we never want to give Philly credit for anything -- I know it leaves an oily taste in my mouth -- but that's a good deal for them.  Since no superstar d-men are likely to move at the deadline, he's the kind of player we should be targeting to shore up our defense.

You know he's basically smaller, less offensively talented, left-handed version of Cody Franson, right? He's good at getting his body in front of the puck and he's good at passing the puck. He's not very good at everything else.
