Game Notes
COL
-MacKenzie Blackwood (24-16-6, 2.50 GAA, .915 Sv%) will likely start for the Avalanche
-Colorado is 8-0-1 in their last 9 games, most of which came post trade deadline where the Avs picked up players like Nelson, Coyle, and Lindgren. That of course includes a 7-4 win over the Leafs 1.5 weeks ago
-Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog, who due to a serious knee injury hasn't played a NHL game since Colorado won the Cup on June 26th 2022, won't be in the line-up of course but is expected to be travelling with the team as he continues to work toward a comeback
TOR
-Joseph Woll (23-12-0, 2.75 GAA, .905 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs

I get why Domi is there but can someone please remind me why we spent a first and Minten on Laughton to play fourth line centre?

First, Minten went in the Carlo trade. It was a 1st and Grebenkin for Laughton (w/ retention).

Second, in the 1 game Laughton's played at "4C" he still ended up 6th among forward in ice-time and just 1 minute behind Nylander. Obviously that game ended up being a bit of a blow out so the big guys didn't play as much as they typically would but it still shows he's not exactly being played like Kampf was.

Third, I'd be a little shocked if he stayed in the 4C position for a significant amount of time. I think Berube saw that he was struggling a little to adjust to a new team and put him in a bit of a safer line-up spot to get him going.

All in all, I wouldn't panic too much because he's playing on the 4th line for 2 games. He has an entire playoff run this season plus all of next season for him to prove the trade was worth it.

Still, paying 3.9m and giving up a 1st and Grebenkin to fill your 4th line center spot is not a good look.

I really think Laughton should be put on the 2nd line LW spot with Tavares and Nylander.

Agreed with all points. But I also think come playoff time Laughton won't in that spot so at the very least I'd reserve complaints until we know if this is more permanent or not.

Laughton/Kampf/Domi/Jankrok: alternating these 4 deck chairs is not going to make a tangible difference. I don't get the trade.
