Blackhawks @ Leafs - Dec. 14th, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

Thanks for the online streaming links - I am unfortunately stuck in Montreal where they apparently dont get proper television signals  ;)

I'm gonna jinx it here and haven't been able to watch real close and maybe because it's Bob Cole doing his vague play by play but I haven't heard the usual panic in our end stuff because we have some actual puck movers?

Rielly is rather amazing at skating it out.  Still turns it over sometimes but with more experience he'll cut that down.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd reversed it ... kinda iffy.

Not really. The puck was still directed by an intentional hand motion made with the idea of gaining control of the puck. The fact that Hossa flubbed his attempt to grab the puck is immaterial.

Actually, as Mirtle points out, and contrary to what I said, there is a rule that seems to address this:

67.6 Disallowed Goal - A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck with his hand into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck and it is deflected into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official. When the puck enters the net on a clear deflection off a glove, the goal shall be allowed.

I guess you'd argue whether he batted or directed it, but it's subjective.

I guess, but, what happened there was clearly more than a deflection. He swiped at the puck in the air and made contact. I think that's enough to consider it directing rather than deflecting.
