Dang. I'd have gotten it right if I'd only have guessed any of the correct pieces.

On the plus side though, that ought to fix the Blue Jackets.

TSNBobMcKenzie: CBJ trading Kris Russell to STL for Nikita Nikitin, but still hearing CBJ's Fedor Tyutin may be on move as well. We will see, tho.

And motivate the fan base and band-wagoners to get their butts down to the arena.

Win-Win!

For a goalie maybe?

Way too logical. Clearly, he's being traded for a 4th line winger and a #6 defenceman.

EDIT: Seriously, though, considering he signed a 6 year, $27M extension this summer, if he is being traded, the return is probably going to be . . . ummm . . . interesting. His cap hit for the rest of this season isn't bad, but, those next 6 years are rough.

That would be quite the odd move on Columbus' part. Tyutin is easily their second best defenceman behind Wisniewski and signed a long-term deal with the club this summer.

Clearly a move brought on in part as a well-needed reaction to the club's recent embarrassing difficulties.

I mean, you know, they got beat by the Leafs tonight...

This is exactly the type of major shakeup the Bluejackets needed.  :-\

All kidding aside, they did just ship out a contributing player for a prospect, so, I'd say they've at least accepted their fate. 10 games below .500 only 15 games into the season, though, it's not like they had much choice.

Nikitin is actually older than Russel. Age doesn't always dictate whether somebody is a prospect or not, but I wouldn't really call him a prospect anymore. He's been averaged 20 minutes a game for the Blues so far this season, 3rd highest among defencemen for St. Louis.

It's really a strange trade for the Blues. Russel is an offensive defenceman, and they have Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, and Colaiacovo ahead of him right now.

#STLBlues confirm Nikita Nikitin for D Kris Russell trade is a done deal. Meanwhile, GM Scott Howson insists nothing is official.

Perhaps Howson is indeed waiting for another deal to be finalized?
