2nd in the East, 5th overall. No matters what happens I'm enjoying this now.
Never forget Leafs were 30th two seasons ago
I was just thinking that it's really amazing how far this team has come in such a short period of time.

Well, I'm quite surprised that was allowed.

Me too.  Looked like Hyman pushed him.
My view is McAvoy initiated contact. They battled. Not Hyman's fault he happened to fall on his goalie. Are you saying you can't battle a guy who's standing next to his goalie? Because that would basically make that player untouchable.

I also thought Rask had plenty of time to reset.
I have to agree. It's a battle in front and Hyman initially had to battle with 2 Bruins players. He knocked McAvoy on his ass, them the breaks kid

But he knocked McEvoy into Rask.
But that's my question. Should a player who stands next to his goalie be untouchable? Because that's what the rule essentially is if there's a battle in front and one player loses balance into his goalie. McAvoy and Hyman were battling, McAvoy skated his way into that position before getting pushed as the battle in front didn't really stop.

I have to think that's what the ref decided.  That's a good argument.  All I'm saying is that other recent calls on similar plays have gone the other way.  And Hyman was in the paint.

Gardiner with a 76.9% CF tonight. Two big hits. And it looks like after Rielly-Hainsey got scored on by the Bergeron line a couple times early Babcock switched over to Gardiner-Zaitsev for that match-up. In 9 minutes of play Gardiner had an 80% CF against Bergeron.

Hainsey and to a lesser degree Polak were driving me crazy with their zone exits.

So many times Hainsey had tons of time and would just try and dump the puck out along the boards or through the middle of the ice.

Even worse he didn't even get it out of the zone a lot of the times and the Bruins kept the pressure on.

I thought Leivo played well tonight.  What did you guys think?
I think he did what he could with limited ice time. Kapanen certainly looked far more impressive. It must be difficult for Leivo to come back in after 2 months of not playing.  How much can you really expect from him?

It's funny that at the start of last season, it was widely agreed the the Buffalo Sabres were about a year ahead of the Leafs in their rebuild.

Looking at the net cam McAvoy skates kind of trip Rask before Hyman made the arm push.

But I am shocked that it was not interferance. But I Will take that

At this point I really have no idea where the line is on goalie interference, but I doubt anyone would really have been surprised if that one had been called back. It's just nice to be on the other side of the decision for once.

Yeah, I have no idea what the criteria are so I can?t even begin to judge one way or the other.

What about Edmonton? It was widely believed they were 2 or 3 years ahead of the Leafs.

Leivo was alright considering he hasn't played since the moon landing.  Don't know what we could expect from a guy who just sits all season.

The encouraging thing last night for me was only allowing 2 shots in the second period.  Sure one went in, but still that's a pretty good job at dictating play against a strong opponent.

The thing is I'm not sure what team the Leafs are.  The one that played last night that looked like they would make it a series against the Bruins, or the one that showed up a couple of weeks ago where it looked like they didn't even deserve to be on the same ice surface.

One went in because of JVR. I think the Leafs are more of last nights team.  Sure they'll crap the bed every so often but they've beat Boston 3 out of 4 and are 7-1 in their last 8 against them I believe. That's not a fluke. The Leafs are a really good team.
I have a feeling after this long run with Willie at centre, he might just be staying there.

All of the Coaches Corner segments get uploaded to Sportsnet's website. All season long, they've been the full 7-8 minute pieces. The one uploaded from last night is only 3:57. They cut out the entire second half where he rages on Europeans and how the Russian ref conspired against Canada on that one penalty haha!

I think it's done that way because of the Olympics. Don's rage was on the Olympics Coach's Corner. They were 2 separate segments recorded at different times.
