I get trading Lucic but Hamilton? That's a pretty underwhelming return for him.

Like I get why they did it, he wanted more than what they were prepared to offer. But guys like Hamilton are exactly who you open your wallets for. Over the next 10 years he might be better than any defenceman that they have.

I guess we'll see how he makes out contractually but unless he was after some egregious term and salary I really don't get it.

Rumour is he wanted $5.5M per.

Of course the real reason Boston traded Hamilton has finally been revealed through helpful anonymous league sources:

?It was surprising,? said one NHL assistant GM. ?It?s obvious there?s something going on that we don?t know about. From what I?ve heard behind the scenes, his teammates don?t like him. I heard he?s a loner and sort of an uppity kid, and that his teammates don?t like him and it was unanimous.?

Sounds like they just recycled that from when they traded Kessel.

And Seguin.

Oh, please let the 1st rounder that they got for Hamilton turn out to be a big unlikeable jerk.

According to Friedman's latest "30 Thoughts," the Bruins offered $5.5M per for 6 years, but Hamilton was looking for closer to $7.5M per.

?When you win as a team, your players are going to be paid more. They make a lot more. As management, you have to separate your absolute core and take care of them ? because you hope that group continues to help you win. But there are other people you just can?t keep. You want to, but you just can?t. Sometimes people just have to go.

Thank you hockey jeebus, if the Leafs couldn't have a franchise centre and defenceman instead of Kessel, I'm glad Boston can't either.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but this defenseman Colin Miller that came over to Boston in the LA trade is 22 years old, and had 19 goals and 52pts in 70 games for the Monarchs last year.
