I honestly think Patrick Marleau would have been a better choice than a lot of those wingers, or centers who'd be converting to the wing.

On D it's gonna get real interesting though. Hockey Canada has an overwhelming amount of RH D-men and not a lot of lefties. For that reason it wouldn't surprise me if they bring Hamhuis or Bouwmeester.

Yeah, what's with Holtby?

Seems like he did pretty well last season.

Not better than Reimer.

They might have brought him for the experience; if Holtby's the guy they've got pegged for the 2018 team they bring him to camp this time just to show him the ropes.

USA did the same thing with John Gibson... who hasn't even played an NHL game yet.

(All speculation on my part - I have no idea why they'd prefer Holtby to Reimer)

The US invited a lot of guys with little or no NHL experience - Gibson, Jones, Dekeyser, Beau Bennett, Bjustad and Trouba were all given invites. Holtby's the only guy Canada invited who doesn't have at least 3 full (or near full) NHL seasons under his belt. He kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. He did have a very good year and looks like he could very well be a stud goalie in the years to come, but, if he's there, Reimer probably should be as well - and, given the current state of Canadian goaltending, I would have brought in as many reasonable options as possible. Heck, I might even be convinced to take Reimer over Crawford. The only thing Crawford really has on him is that he's the most recent Cup winning goalie - which, granted, could be considered somewhat significant, but, while Crawford played well in the playoffs, I'm not sure swapping him for Reimer would have prevented the Hawks from winning the Cup, in terms of overall talent.

Most teams and Russians in particular have impressive TOP6
"Bottom 6" is the place where Canada must make the difference to win this tournament and naturally outstanding goaltending as always in short events like Olympics.

I don't think the goalie situation is as bad as some are making it out to be.  This isn't the be all end all, but I think generally Canadian goaltenders are still doing very well, and combined with the team they will have in front of them, there shouldn't be a problem: http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BPtwrijCAAA4c9C.png

I know there's an argument to be made that it's a short tournament, and it would be better to have 1 elite goalie than a handful of above average ones, but someone like Luongo is still arguably a top flight goalie and again, the team in front off-sets the concerns for me.
