The brand manager for Nike Canada was on PrimeTime Sports on Monday. Bob McCowan
asked the same question you did and the answer was that Hockey Canada requests that a new jersey be created each Olympic year.
He didn't go into the reasoning but I would assume from the mindset of both Nike and Hockey Canada is that a new jersey each tournament means more revenue. So why not create a new one each time.

I think were a little weak in goaltending.
Nik the Trik said:But is that necessarily true? I mean, I doubt there are a ton of people out there who are going to buy a less attractive jersey just because they're new and I have to believe that the sort of person who would do that is pretty likely to buy a new Olympic jersey anyways just because of how many players change from one games to the next.
I mean, if you look at jersey sales throughout sports I'd bet you'd find a pretty strong connection between jersey sales and teams who tend to keep the same uniform designs around.
Bullfrog said:I suspect it has more to do with associating a particular image with a particular team.
Bullfrog said:But doesn't being obsolete make it more exclusive? You can say "and here's my jersey from the Sochi Olympics" instead of "here's my Getzlaf jersey, probably from Sochi, but maybe it was the Olympics before that? Can't remember."
Bullfrog said:I don't believe the knowledge that a particular design is obsolete is detrimental to its value or makes it undesirable.
Bullfrog said:I think there's value in having distinct jerseys for a distinct event.
Bullfrog said:I can also see the value in maintaining tradition, but find it can often be forced.

Maybe, but it's worth mentioning that this isn't that. Whatever the jerseys are for the National team are going to be worn at lots of different events. The WJC's, the World Championships and whatever Women's Team events come up. So a redesign doesn't necessarily form that association. It's a jersey that's going to be worn for the next four years by various teams of various quality.
