Canadiens @ Leafs - May 22nd, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Good game for the most part.

But I still think they need to change the personnel on the PP units. Thornton really isn't a threat to shoot and pass. Hyman looks off still but I'm sure he will turn it around. Swap Thornton for Nylander and you have better options.

I thought Marner had a poor game. Hyman as well. Thornton/Simmonds don't really provide much. I'd rather rotate one in/one out and bring Brooks up for the 4th line.

I know Nylander had points but he was really shying away from contact. So many times he turned the puck over because he was afraid of the hit.

I think it was a mistake sitting Engvall in that first game.  Reilly is a shutdown center but the Habs score by committee.  You want to pressure every one of their lines.  Having that third line be able to make their presence felt in the offensive zone helped.
Nash is a 4th liner.. the 3rd line was great all night. The speed Engvall adds makes a huge difference.

Engaged Engvall is a very good NHL player.  He has been that down the stretch and was again tonight.  Passive Engvall who just exists is a bubble guy but if we get this guy it's a big boost as far as a defender/penalty killer and a guy who can at least generate some offense with his speed if not his substandard shot.

Well, there's at least three people in the world that think that was goalie interference.

Don't know if this is true, but if it is, it's pretty funny.

Much better effort tonight by the Leafs.  They competed.  They need to keep it up and not take their foot off the gas.

Yes this content
From a Reddit thread:

"Sandin was on the radio a few weeks ago and you could hear Nylander in the background. Radio guys took note and asked Sandin how he would stop Nylander if he had to face him. You then very quietly hear Nylander in the background say "I'm unstoppable"."

Ha!

The Leafs simply took over that game after they scored the first goal. It was a little jumbled in their own zone to start but they used their offensive pressure to take the load off the defensive end.

Big hat tip to Bogosian for the effort on the first goal. That forecheck makes it hard for a team to defend. It's how Toronto often gets trapped.

I really like North/South Rielly when he's playing with speed like he has been these first two games. He's not shifty but he carries the puck at a high speed which helps zone entries.

Mission accomplished.

What is he had just started Engvall to begin with, hmm?

No no I think you're missing the point: clearly he NEEDS to be benched in game 1's in order to activate his giraffe strength. #TrustTheProcess

Like some kind of giant ungulate slingshot?

Hopefully the side benefit of Sandin scoring from the point is that it makes Montreal think or recognize that he's a scoring threat. The more they try to cover him the more it opens up for everybody else, and Matthews in particular.

Wishful thinking maybe, but it would be amazing if this was the big key to getting the power play working again.
