Candidates for next Maple Leaf GM

Knobby

Sorry if this is out there somewhere, but I don't feel like reading through 100 page posts anymore. If the Leafs don't make the playoffs again this year, it has been speculated that BB will be toasted. How many here feel that this is warranted and who do you feel would be a candidate for the Leafs GM position if this were to happen. I actually like Burke, but he has not gotten the results that I would like to see. I am not saying to win the Cup, but at least assemble a team that is competitive and playoff bound. I like Nonis, but if Burke goes, I feel that they need to clean house. Maybe a guy like Jim Nill. Your thoughts?

Allow me to be the first.

To Brian Burke!

You didn't bring us the cup you promised, but you did bring us Komisarek and Connelly.

Huzzah!

A bit premature.  Are we going to talk about the next coach to replace Carlyle while we're at it since he'll eventually be replaced as well?

No need.  Dallas Eakins. End of  discussion.  Now, for a toast to Dallas Eakins.

To Dallas Eakins,

You brought the Marlies to the Finals!

I gotta try this:

To Cliff Fletcher,

You mistakenly signed Jeff Finger to $3.5M a year for 4 years instead of $3.5M spread over 4 years.

Huzzah!

It's fun, isn't it.  Thanks to Knobby for suggesting that we toast our Maple Leaf management.  And, to be honest, when I heard the Finger signing, I thought, not bad, about 800K/year for a depth guy.  Then, I realized, it was 3.5 per year for a guy I'd never heard of.

The answer is Nonis.

Now the thread can be safely deleted.

So should we start a new thread about canning Nonis?  At that time, should we suggest Gillis be his replacement?  :o

By then Dougie Gilmour will have learned the ropes in Kingston, done 3 years as assistant to Nonis, and will have pulled off a blockbuster trade that brought Crosby and Malkin to Toronto.  He is the obvious choice.

I've still got my fingers crossed. I wouldn't be the safest choice for GM but I absolutely would be the most likely to drunkenly throw a whiskey bottle at Dave Hodge.

That makes you over-qualified, I'm afraid.

After all we've been through the last 10 years, im on board with giving Nik a shot. We survived JFJ, so what the hell.

I dont think it's premature to discuss the next GM and comparing to when Carlyle eventually leaves, he just got here. Burke has been here for going on 5 years and hasn't built a winner, or even a playoff team yet. If the Leafs aren't firmly in the playoffs by January i'd say theres blood in the water for sure. Who to replace him, no idea. Nonis would probobly take over for the interim.

It hasn't even been 4 years since he was hired.

Going on, as in, approaching, as in, technically im not wrong. This fall will be his 4th year complete, beginning his 5th.

I'll alert NORAD at once.

Except that, you know, you are wrong. Burke won't complete his 4th year until the end of November - more than 3 months away.

Like I said, Colorado is aware of the situation and have acted accordingly moving the doomsday clock to 2300.

Nobody panic.

Two letters: CW

Gee guys maybe a little harsh???, there is absolutely nothing to discuss in Leaf Nation after all.  I see little harm in pondering over such  scenarios.  My candidate is Paul Hendrick.
