Candidates for next Maple Leaf GM

I've still got my fingers crossed. I wouldn't be the safest choice for GM but I absolutely would be the most likely to drunkenly throw a whiskey bottle at Dave Hodge.

You will probably save time by just telling us all how wrong we are on T.V. instead of coming here and posting.

Wait a second, isn't that what Burke does now?

Gee guys maybe a little harsh???, there is absolutely nothing to discuss in Leaf Nation after all.  I see little harm in pondering over such  scenarios.  My candidate is Paul Hendrick.

If he can interview himself, then he gets my vote.

All the questions will be safe and rosy.  :P

Sorry if this is out there somewhere, but I don't feel like reading through 100 page posts anymore. If the Leafs don't make the playoffs again this year, it has been speculated that BB will be toasted. How many here feel that this is warranted and who do you feel would be a candidate for the Leafs GM position if this were to happen. I actually like Burke, but he has not gotten the results that I would like to see. I am not saying to win the Cup, but at least assemble a team that is competitive and playoff bound. I like Nonis, but if Burke goes, I feel that they need to clean house. Maybe a guy like Jim Nill. Your thoughts?

Two letters: CW

yup, if we're promoting from within, definitely

Not to worry people. I'm very self-critical so my getting the job wouldn't stop me from coming here to post about what a terrible job the Leafs' GM is doing.

I look forward to attempting to defend your moves against your criticism of them.

It is stuff like this that keeps me coming back to this site.  ;D

I don't think any fan has to worry about Healy as their GM. I could be wrong but I think that whatever "hockey smarts" he has just wouldn't be enough where the brass of their team would come out of an interview saying; "Yeah, let's hire THAT guy."

A bit premature.  Are we going to talk about the next coach to replace Carlyle while we're at it since he'll eventually be replaced as well?

A bit premature?

I think not.

What are you waiting for -- 4.5 years of no playoffs (and by that I mean not even close) is not enough to make this a mature point of conversation?

As for your Carlyle comment, that I agree with: if Burke is cashiered the next GM will want his own coach and indeed that seems to be an accepted tenet of the GM position.

Lucky for Burke his perfect coach was already here when he arrived.

There's no way that Burke is going to get replaced as GM.He's the 1st one since ages ago to attempt to  build the team properly from the bottom up in spite of the fact that not all his deals have worked out for the near term.

You guys that are wishing otherwise are wanting Burke to do the same stupidity that many previous managers have done,is make deals to just get in 7th or 8th spot and then what...start waving flags down Yonge street that we are just better than halfway good.

Well Bravo to you...I had enough of the Leafs being the underdogs in a playoff series and have to play over their heads just to win one series.

The only way Burke goes is if he has other issues to deal with other than hockey.
