Capitals @ Leafs - Apr. 19th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Lot of heart shown in the attempted comeback, but, just shows how much a better effort in the first 40 could have helped.

Also, this would have been such a different game if Wilson doesn't stop that rolling puck.

Caps should have run away with that one.  It says something that we played like dogdoo and still managed to make a game of it.

Oh well, back to the default stance: "It's a great learning experience for the young guys."

That 5th goal may have been the worst goal against the Leafs since Bergeron's OT goal. Could have definitely come out with a 3-1 series lead if not for it.

Yeah, but our first two goals were pretty fortunate ones.  Capitals were the better team in just about every way.

Not that I think they were gonna score with that little time left anyway, but Matthews has got to be on the ice there. Heck I would have gone with 6 forwards and sat Gardiner if it came to that.

Ya I agree and that 5 on 3 was pathetic.

Absolutely, but, at the same time, the Leafs were literally inches from tying it at 2 - and quite possibly sucking the life out of the Caps. They came right back and made it 3-1 from there, and maintained their domination until the 3rd. They were clearly the better team tonight, but they still very much feel like a fragile one.

Yes it was.

Babcock definitely noticed some of the things we noticed. Kadri, Matthews and Nylander all over 20 minutes tonight. JVR, Bozak and Marner all between 11-12 ES minutes.

I'm not going to debate adjectives but it wasn't. They got shots on. They got good shots on. They should have changed up their tactics once they realized it wasn't working but the Caps exposed a Leafs weakness there(they don't have a real weapon from the point) and coaching can only do so much to fix that.

Oh, I agree.  Next game Leafs have a chance to really take control of the series IF they can play the Caps even in the first.  The closer it is the longer it is, the more the Caps have the Choke Devil sitting on their shoulders.

We can't forget that there is no pressure on the Leafs this series -- except, maybe, if they had won tonight.

Sorry, but Matthews not getting a single look during the whole thing makes it so.  I mean, I agree that the lack of a bomb is a weakness, but knowing that they should have done exactly what you just said -- change tactics, have Nylander drive the net, say.

Sure, they could have changed up who it was with the puck but there's no guarantee it would have worked out any differently. On a 5 on 3, teams will take away stuff down low and force you to beat them from the point. It's what the Leafs did to the Caps the game before when Shattenkirk kept missing the net.

So if "Reasonably well executed but not quite as adaptive as I'd like" qualifies as "pathetic" to you, well, I said I'm not debating adjectives.

Leafs need to target 2 good stay at home D men in the off-season.

You're out of your mind. I have no idea why anyone thinks they are a commodity. A defenseman with a good defensive acumen doesn't mean they can't be an offensive weapon as well.

Reminder: You aren't allowed to put words in my mouth.  It's my mouth.  Your words need to Keep Out.

Matthews not getting a look is my definition of "pathetic."  That's what my mouth said, and I always stand by my mouth because I need to keep on its good side.  It's also my piehole, after all.

Just too much of a hole to come back from, but full credit to the Leafs to continue fighting. Saw a lot of resiliency in the Buds tonight to not let the game get out of hand and make it close at the end. Shake this one off and back at it Friday night.

GO LEAFS GO!
