Not that Bernier's been bad or anything, but, Reimer has just been a little bit better and deserves more starts.

Yup. It still bugs me that Bernier got the start against the Islanders on Tuesday when it was clear they were also giving him the Thursday game vs. Nashville because of his stats against them. It's pretty obvious that he's being favoured by the coaches.

I assumed that was because of Reimer's stats versus the Isles.

They're not good I guess? I didn't catch them. Still, the whole deciding who starts based on previous stats or who knows which team better needs to stop.

Yeah. I mean, I kinda get that, but, if Reimer doesn't get the start on Monday against Columbus . . .

Bernier's only 2-2 against them, so I think we're safe in that regard at least.

Then again Reimer hasn't started against them ever. His stats could be anything!

They're his worst against any team he's faced at least 5 times.  But that was just my guess as to why, only thing I came up with.

I'm sure that's what they used to decide it, yeah.

If Maurice or Wilson had gotten the goaltending that we're currently getting we'd have won the cup.

Ok, well not quite.

Another day where Carlyle says the team shouldn't be so selective with their shots and just put the puck on the net.

This team desperately needs to start getting some "ugly" goals if they want to keep winning.

So he's advocating shooting from he Leafs own zone?

The Clarkson-Kadri-Lupul line has a lot of potential. That line along with JvR-Bozak-Kessel makes up a pretty darn good top six.

Just wanted to note the beauty of

1) JVR's little dribbler that unhorsed Holtby in the SO ... hell of a changeup, it was.

and

2) Whatever you call that little wristy delay move Lupul pulled.  That was sweet.

With Maurice ... possibly.  It's all wild speculation of course, but that one year of his we missed the playoffs by only a point.  Who knows?

James Reimer began to wonder if the Toronto Maple Leafs could hold on and shut out the Washington Capitals. It didn't matter that they were being drastically outshot.

When Alex Ovechkin scored late in the third period, Reimer tried to keep the negative thoughts from getting to him."You kind of tell 'em to screw off and just keep focus on the puck," Reimer said. "You can't focus on the bad things or the negative things. All you can do is make that next save."

...this one was about quality over quantity as far as what Reimer faced.

"Honestly it was more of them just throwing pucks at the net from everywhere," said Reimer, who made 49 saves and then stopped three of four in the shootout. "Our team did a great job of keeping the shots to the outside, and I just tried my best to control them. When I left some out there, obviously they were there to back me up."

The 50 shots were a season high for the Capitals (12-10-2), as well as a season-high allowed by the Leafs.

Grabovski booed...

No one was really to blame for a fluke injury to ex-Leafs centre Mikhail Grabovski late in the second when he suffered two cuts on the right side of his face after was sliced by Clarkson's skate while falling to the ice. Grabovski was booed by the crowd for laying on the ice after getting cut and skating off quickly following a whistle, but there was a copious amount of blood coming from his face that fans did not see.

Grabovski needed 20 stitches but returned to the game early in the third. He said the play was his fault because he held on to the puck too long.

Ovechkin called Grabovski a "warrior" for returning.
