He needs to start playing full seasons but that's a pretty solid deal for a guy with 98 points in 117 games over the last two years as a defenseman.  The Leafs got Morgan Rielly on a steal of a contract but he got it before breaking out with his 52 + 72 point seasons.

McAvoy, like Boeser, was not qualified for full RFA status, and this could not be offersheeted.

Although seeing as pretty much noone offer sheets I don't know how much that really did/should affect negotiations.

He had 98 PIM, 60 points. I think you read the wrong column.  ;) (which are still very good point totals for a young defenseman)

Exactly.  Did Dubas overpay because he was worried about Marner getting an offer sheet in October all of the sudden?

Marner?s group actively solicited offersheets but turned them all down.

Oh look, a RFA contract that isn?t a $3 million/season overpayment. Must be nice.

Which of the Leafs' players are overpaid by $3M/season?

Marner, on a 6 year term, is likely overpaid between 2 and 3 million per season depending on your view of the market.

I mean, depending on your view of the market, he might not be overpaid. (for the record, I don't think he's worth the AAV, but anything for me approaching $10M/a was fine.) In my mind, it's quibbling over $880k/a, which seems a bit petty.

There's no way he's overpaid by $2.5m when Aho signed an under market value deal as basically the lowest forward comparable thus far. I thought he'd come in at $9.5-$10. It's an overpayment now but nowhere near $3m.

I think you could say it's $2mil over, that's almost exactly what EvolvingWild's cap projections would say and they've been pretty close to all the other big RFAs so far.

To me, based on the projections and comparables, $10 million would have been fine if we were getting 8 or more years. On a 6 year term that would still be a significant overpayment.
