Clarkson for horton

Clarkson with a 10-minute misconduct tonight. I can only imagine that the explanation is hilarious.

3rd man in on a non-fight I guess.  I honestly don't know why he got a 10-minute misconduct on that play.  Regardless, he continues to be useless.

He's not going to catch a break this year.

Neither is CBJ.  They wanted a body on the ice for their millions.

Glass half full:
at least, they have a few more years to get him healthy ...
(that seems almost mean to say .. but unlike Horton, they certainly have much more hope - though I wouldn't bet on him being able to play until the end of this deal)

September 2015:

Jackets' David Clarkson ready to hit the reset button

COLUMBUS - Family, friends, fitness folks and the front office are all getting behind David Clarkson to make sure failure does not mark his second season with the Blue Jackets.

The team needs Clarkson to be as robust and rejuvenated as he looked and sounded Monday when the club had more than 20 regulars and farmhands show up for an informal workout at Nationwide Arena.

?It?s easy to have excuses, but you go back to work,? said Clarkson, who couldn?t hit the reset button fast enough after 2014-15. ?Everybody goes through tough times, tough days and tough years. From top to bottom, that was something I?ve never been through.  Scratched, traded, injured and unable to come back again, trying to play ... it was just a nightmare.

?You do what you have to in life. I knew what I had to do, get back (to positive habits). That?s how you come out of it.?

With Clarkson's season with Columbus ruined by the early injury, Clarkson needed time to regroup.

Now 31 years old, he dedicated to having a productive summer with personal trainer Andy O?Brien, whose stable in Toronto and Calgary includes Sidney Crosby, many other NHLers and figure skater Patrick Chan.

?We go away and train by ourselves, which we?ve done the past six or seven years,? Clarkson said. ?I?m quite lucky to train around some elite players and that pushed me, too. I didn?t think I needed to do anything different (physically) than train with Andy.?

Clarkson also knew he?d be prominent in Jarmo Kek?l?inen?s appointment book once club GM had time to meet with prominent Blue Jackets players.

?He?s a better player than (last year?s results),? Kek?l?inen told the Columbus Dispatch in the spring. ?I expect a big improvement from him. Anything that could have gone wrong did go wrong, right from the start.?

Added Clarkson, ?Obviously there were a lot of tough breaks that went on for me, but at the end of the day, I feel great and I?m excited for what?s ahead. I?m just looking forward to getting this started.?

there is a new synonym for the Edsel, its called the Clarkson.

That's an insult to the Edsel!  The car was just before it's time, Clarkson is simply past his time!  LIRL

This is great news for Tank Nation. Columbus is probably a worse team with Clarkson in the line-up, and we need them to win some games.

Unlike Horton,Clarkson's contract is likely insured.

How does that work though? Doesn't insurance only pay out in your Marc Savard-Chris Pronger sort of situations?

If CBJ keep up the payments ...

But it won't help them this year because it doesn't kick in until he's missed 30 games or so (not enough games left).

If I recall correctly, insurance covers 70% of a player's salary whenever that player incurs a long-term injury (so, like, anything that would require LTIR time, for instance). It might be a longer threshold than that, but it doesn't require a career ending injury to kick in.

Globe link
(team insurance policies generally cover 80 per cent of lost salary if a player loses more than 30 games to a single injury

I'm sure it can vary. But generally, I've understood that the team is on the hook for roughly the first 30 games and then only 20% of the salary in missed games after that for an injury.

Now that's a big "deductible". But if they don't have a big deductible, insurance costs can get really crazy. Insurance companies like to make money on the policies they sell. Major hockey injuries happen much more frequently (per player) than say the rate of houses that burn down/get totally destroyed (per homeowner).

Just a random thought, but I've almost forgotten Clarkson was even on the team. I only thought of him because I was thinking about who'd be on the fourth line and my thoughts were "Bodie would preferable over that other guy."

How could anyone almost forget Clarkson as a Leaf?  His stay may have been short, but, it sure to heck was memorable.  :o
