Clarkson suspension?

Nik the Trik said:
Is that right? By my calculator 5.25 million per is sixty-four thousand and change a game.

Players aren't paid per game, though. They're paid per day based on how many days the entire league's schedule is. It's usually between 184 and 192 days. I think it's 186 this year. He also actually only earns $1M for the season. His total earnings in real dollars for this season is $4.5M and $3.5M was paid out as a signing bonus. The number that Alter is putting out there might actually be significantly higher than what Clarkson is actually losing, as he only loses the equivalent of 12 days of salary (suspended players only forfeit salary for game days).

Suspensions getting out of hand this year.

I think the league is running scared on lawsuits etc. Quite different from the NFL that has no minor league/overseas leagues so I think they will be a little more successful
in terms of defending themselves. The NFL got away very cheap in settling.

On the brightside, now we'll only have to watch Clarkson play a maximum of 539 more regular season games.

He's on pace to be suspended for more than 2 full seasons of the 7 year contract.

My God is an awesome God

I'm still sickened by the disparity, the elbow to Datsuk's head was "incidental" contact when he clearly stuck his elbow out...7 games missed with a concussion.
Once again Shanahans magic 8 ball comes up with something I agree with most of the suspensions I just want some consistancy.

We need to start petition to get Shannan fired. This is most ridiculous thing I have seen yet. Yes it was dirty hit. but he has be same to all teams not just Canadian teams. A load of crap.

I don't necessarily see any inconsistency here. One of the things that they keep hammering home is an emphasis on punishing repeat offenders and considering the way Clarkson started this season it shouldn't surprise anyone that he's facing more scrutiny than the average player.

No Clarkson for 2 games can only be a good thing. Word is he will try his nest to be invisible in the press box to match his on ice play.

Geez I figured he'd opt for visible as opposed to invisible.

Given his tendency not to pass coupled with him trying to carry the puck into the zone 1 on 4, I figured he'd go to the nearest restaurant where they would promptly announce "Clarkson, party of one".

Clarkson is a repeat offender of doing what exactly?
1. Saving the top scorer's life in the NHL's biggest market place.
2. A hit that is questionable.
Maybe they should make the NHL into a ice-skating dance off instead of carry scary looking sticks in their hands.

I take it you never watched the Boston game then.

Committing suspendable offences. It's not like in our justice system a repeat felon gets credit because his latest crime is in an entirely new genre.

No, the Boston game proves the point. If you think the  Seidenberg hit deserved a suspension and the Clarkson one did as well then the difference is attributable to both players' history which the league says is a factor. I'm sorry if you don't like that being true but it is, they say it is and they act accordingly.

Sorry Nik got to disagree, Chara hit on Pacioretty was the dirtiest thing I have seen in hockey since McSorely stick to Barser's head. Lucic running Miller over should of been five games aleast. I cant remember another team getting away with awful crap up until this week with Thorton. Nash should of got 5 games last year and the list goes not. Yes Clarkson deserved a fine, if that is all Shenn got for a crosscheck to the face.

Chara delivering a legal but poorly timed hit is the dirtiest thing you've seen in hockey since Brashear-McSorley? Worse than Bertuzzi on Moore? Or Chris Simon's baseball swing at Hollweg's head? Or Chris Simon's intentional stomp on the back on Jarkko Ruutu's leg? Come on, now.

You also don't get an assault charge increased because you have a previous DUI.

For NHL discipline history is not supposed to be considered for getting a hearing. Once you have a hearing repeat offender means you have done similar things in the past. Clarkson leaving bench should have no bearing on this incident as they have no similarities. There have been several similar incidents just this week that were worse than Clarkson and didn't even result in a hearing. Players have no idea how Department of Player Safety works and that is not helping anyone.
