The progress of Joe Colborne will be very interesting to watch this year. Here is hoping he gets out of the gate with a strong training camp under his belt.
The fact that the Leafs only re-upped him for a year suggests its time for him to fish or they cut-bait.
In my mind, given the Leafs have dumped Grabo and traded Frattin, Colborne only fit would really be a third-liner, since the top two lines are pretty much a lock, and putting him on a fourth line makes no sense for a young prospect.
That raises the question, do they play Colborne or Bolland on the wing, assuming Colborne earns a spot out of camp (but who knows who else might surprise). So would it better to go...
Colborne, Bolland, Kuli
or
Kuli, Colborne, Bolland
I'm guessing the former, since Bolland was brought in to be a shutdown guy. But shifting Colborne to a wing just seems a little strange too. A bit of a conundrum unless some kind of deal takes or Colborne flops out of camp. But he will be an interesting guy to watch - though most of the media attention will be around Clarkson, Bolland and Bernier.
