Connolly placed on Waivers

The Leafs are stuck paying Connolly this season and having it count against the cap(whether he's bought out or not) and since his contract expires after this season, why not make him work for his money rather then paying him to either sit at home or to collect 2 paycheques.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if nobody claims him off waivers and we send him to the Marlies, his cap hit doesn't count against the Leafs.

That was the old CBA where you could bury contracts, in this CBA he still counts towards the cap even playing in the AHL becaus eof how much he makes.

Damn, no more Jeff Fingering a guy.  That's how much attention I paid to the CBA.  ;D ;D

It also makes sense to keep him there as a depth player to cover if someone is injured. If Bozak went down in the first game it's a pretty good bet that Tim is getting called up.

less $900k if I recall and understand correctly.

So instead of $4.75 mil cap hit, he's a $3.85 mil cap hit while he plays in the AHL

And this is how you make burying contracts in the minors sound dirty. :)

I also wonder if they're clearing the way to make another move.

I don't see it. They basically needed to make the decision on the final roster today, since they need guys to clear waivers before the 3 PM deadline tomorrow. Only $900K in cap is freed up by this move - and the Leafs had plenty of that to play with as it was. They're now down to 23 healthy guys in camp - the de facto Opening Night roster.

maybe I'm just hoping ....  ;)

Carlyle played Parros in Anaheim. Maybe he's serious about keeping Orr. If so, I don't share his enthusiasm for that.

First Lombardi, now Connolly...Nonis is doing a solid job of taking out the trash!

Now Komi might make some sense if they wanted to try a compliance buyout ... some media have him starting the season in the press box.

With Gardiner on the IR for the season opener, I can't see them keeping eight dmen beyond Gardiner to start the season unless they intend to give Rielly 5 games before sending him down.

Word is Orr has lost like 20 lbs and is focusing on playing more like he did when he was an effective checking line winger with the Rags. If that's true, he could be a useful piece. If not, he's the 13th forward or Marlies bound early in the season.

They can't compliance buyout Komisarek now.  He would have had to have been placed on waivers by today.

That's true as of 1/2 an hour ago ... unless we haven't heard yet ... (maybe wishful thinking...  :) )

OK, now that Glassy is out of the picture, who's up for joining with me to cheer on Nazim?  That's right, I'm offering charter memberships in the Kadri Cadre!!!  8) 8) 8) 8) :o

I'm on board.  I really hope the kid sticks this time and helps the Leafs.  He's taken so much heat from fans and in the press questioning whether he's a "bust" or not.  Still only 22, seems really unfair.

Which makes me bonkers seeing that Brayden Schenn has accomplished as much as Kadri but Kadri takes all the heat and Schenn is viewed as the second coming.

He's doing what I was hoping Burke would do going into the off-season, getting rid of the dead weight. Without Connolly and Lombardi our roster is much more refined, and it's always better if everyone has a specific role. Good moves by Nonis.

The thing is, Orr had a really, really nasty concussion. He did go on to fight in the AHL last year but I have to wonder how effective he can be in that role and how safe it is.

Eh, it's his prerogative. None of us are doctors. I don't think Orr gets a regular spot in this lineup but I wouldn't mind keeping him on as the extra forward and then unleashing him whenever we play Boston or the newly beefed-up Sabres. You never want to get banged around by divisional rivals. Even Montreal bulked up this off-season.

This is show time for Kads.

I think it is best for him and or the Leafs to get a continuous stretch of NHL games under his belt to establish where he fits - and I hope he fits immediately and successfully.
