My wife and youngest son have both tested positive with a rapid test.  I have symptoms but tested negative.  My wife is a teacher and my youngest son is in public school so we figure it came from there.

They told me you might start testing positive 4 or 5 days after symptom onset and that happened to me. Make sure to swab your cheek and back of your throat before doing the nose bit. Hope all of you feel better soon.

Exactly, it takes several days after onset of symptoms to test positive, my wife finally tested negative yesterday and is starting to feel a bit better.  For me I am coming up on week 2 and still not 100% by any means. Still low energy, runny nose, some coughing but slowly getting better.  Thanks for asking and glad Bender is get better.  Still surprised at how bad we have felt after all the jabs we got.  I guess its better than the alternative.

Yeah, I tested positive today.  Low energy, low appetite, runny nose, soar throat and loss of voice, slight cough.  My wife is starting to perk up.  She told me that I can't milk this though.

Ya get well, the strange thing is as bad as we felt our appetite never waned at all. Not normal for flu like symptoms.

I don't like posting things like this but the response to Covid this year seems to be "Let's hide under a pile of coats and hope it goes away".

I don't think there is even hiding, unless we're talking about hiding the research results.

No big orgs in the public sphere really willing to recognize the scope of the damage COVID does to a body, even without initial symptoms, and subsequently a healthcare infrastructure. Long COVID is lifechanging stuff, and not for the better. Most countries still seem to be in hand sanitizer and plexiglass mode.

I really think that the way they opened it up shot any chance of protection in the foot. They've made it almost impossible to go back to a lockdown or for that matter, masks.

My wife is currently going through a battle that can be attributed to her being infected with Covid in January coupled with the stress of running a JK to Grade 12 school through this sh*tshow. She was a healthy, active woman in her mid 40's working her way towards her half marathon that now has a hard time walking up a flight of stairs.

The lack of concern for other's health is demoralizing and kind of solidifies my lack of belief in humanity.

Dang, sorry to hear that, OTH. Rest seems to be the key.

I am sorry  to hear that as well. My wife went through long chicinguna,  a mosquito spread virus and she was in bad shape for several years. It was horrible. Thank God she recovered but has a heart murmur from it.

Chikungunya and "long COVID" are slightly different things as the Chronic form of Chikungunya is a formal arthritic condition that develops in what would otherwise be a short-duration illness.  Chronic Chikungunya Arthritis is absolutely miserable though.

I will say that I'm not a huge fan of the attempts to link CFS and Long COVID though as (ignoring the debate on the validity of the CFS diagnosis) Long-COVID does appear to have some more positive improvement targets and 3, 6 and 9 months.  Extrapolating from SARS data individuals who had prolonged symptoms often had full physical recovery within 1 year post illness.

OTH so sorry to hear this. I hope your wife gets better soon. My hubby had it at Christmas and still has a lingering cough & shortness of breath when he tries to work out. It?s frustrating.

COVID acted as an accelerant to the problem but health care in southwestern ontario is collapsing.

Chesley, St. Mary's, Clinton, Listowel, Wingham, Walkerton

The era of smaller hospitals is absolutely going to have to come to an end but that is also going to require a significant investment to renovate/build facilities capable of absorbing the increased care demands.

It's a feature of the Conservatives' health care approach. Not a bug. Let problems fester, claim the problem is that it's a public service and introduce privatization.

All the synecdoches for intangibles that people want in their hockey players are reservoirs for long COVID  :o
