Coronavirus

You'd almost like to think it was incompetence rather than a general indifference to people dying so long as it keeps the economy chugging along.

I've been consciously avoiding coming up with an answer to that question because one of the answers disturbs me quite a bit more than the other.

How poorly this province has done at handling this pandemic really does beggar belief.
I'm also tired of hearing excuses. Every time you hear "but x is different" it's almost always literally someone not taking responsibility for bad outcomes.

Between the schools and LTC handling, at what point do we start treating this willful negligence as criminal?

That article David Miller is referencing was so transparently poorly written also. If you're going to try and shove insane takes down my throat you could at least dress it up in good writing.

You're referring to the hit piece Ford and Co. put out through the Toronto Sun against Fisman, right?

Yup. Brutal and underhanded.

Accidentally rallied everyone around Fisman and elevated his message lol

Stuff Ontario could have and should have been doing during the first lockdown, but elected to commit to partial-measures that exposed even more people (kids! Their elderly relatives!) so that some businesses could open for a bit.

New Travel Restrictions: A thread

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say "Why hasn't this been the policy all along?". A lot of people like to talk about how New Zealand achieved the results they did because they have different, and in their eyes easier, challenges but it's not like we've been emulating them and getting worse results. Our government barely tried and instead whined about how it's unfair to measure us against countries that did this well.

Big deal. The US and other countries with high infection rates and more money, can still fly here. You want to get serious about stopping this, shut it down to everyone for a month.
Testing mandatory yet???? Didn't think so.

I may be reading something wrong but it seems like the restrictions today apply to all travellers and that a negative test pre-boarding and one post-boarding is mandatory.

Why no start date? And why isn't it "No travel. At all. You don't need to fly there. For any reason."

The answer I've typically heard to your second question is that it may not be possible legally as traveling is a protected charter right.

Re: the first question I imagine that they want to get this system up and running ASAP but don't want to put an arbitrary date on it that they may not be able to hit.

Extremely restrictive re-entry policies at high personal cost should have been put in months ago. It's beyond ridiculous. It's currying favour to voting blocks ahead of public safety.

You're probably correct.

Just spoke with a colleague that is working as a consultant at a mine in the US. His company figures he will be given an exception and be allowed to travel. He's always had to quarantine for 14 days when he gets home. I wonder if he'll also have to stay in a hotel for 3 days as well.

This is a pretty clear indictment of the clearly dangerous and immediately panned back-to-school 'plan' Ontario trotted out in August
