Coronavirus

No. I don't think schools are the problem at all. There's been little to zero spread within the schools, which suggests to me their protocols are working. Many of the kids with COVID got it from their parents.

While our numbers are extremely worrisome lately, most of them are directly traceable to a series of concentrated outbreaks. Our numbers lately are scary though. 60 new cases in a day is by far the most we've had; so definitely not trending in the right direction. Our hospital seems OK at only 83% capacity currently.

The schools have moved to 100% online learning for the next two weeks.

The last two emails received from my father-in-law:

"One Pissed Off Doctor - Masks are Killing You - Take Them Off Now"

"Angry Nurse Has Had it With the COVID-19 Hoax"

I mean, that's possible but is there enough surveillance being done to prove that? It just seems odd because most of the time you talk to parents with young children and they're constantly sick because "the kids brought something home from school."

God I'm so glad most of my family are on the same page. Even ones who think lockdowns are draconian acknowledge the virus and don't want to overwhelm the health care system by letting it rip.

With how strict and restrictive the rules are now for students and teachers, it?ll be like three weeks before all the classrooms are empty again. The race is on between that and yet another lockdown sending the kids back online again.

Been in touch with some of my friends in Sint Maarten, they for the most part have all been vaccinated and will have their second shots in one month, not three.  Dutch territory for all intent and purpose.  Organized.

Out here in BC, we don't even have a clue when we will get our first shot and we are in our mid 60's.  What a frikken joke. The communication to the people is next to non existent.

To be fair there's 41,000 people in that country. We have a lot of work to do but I don't know if that's a fair comparison.

On another note my mom is getting her Astra Zeneca shot on Monday! Dad still has to wait as he is 65+.

Good to hear. My Grandmother(87) got the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday and my Dad(64) is getting the AZ on St. Pat's. Basically just need my Mom to get the shot and I'll be able to relax a bit.

The one thing we seem to have got right over here is the vaccination program. In Northern Ireland we have 621,000 people vaccinated, 50,000 of whom have had their double dose.

That?s approximately 30% of the overall population and just under 50% of the adult population.

They?re currently doing everyone over the age of 50 and it seems that everyone should have had a first dose at least by July.

I'm glad to hear. my 80 year old father-in-law refuses to take it because of his crazy conspiracy beliefs. My mom (64) has her first Pfizer shot already. 2nd one delayed of course.

That's terrific. Is there domestic vaccine manufacturing in Ireland?

No, but we fall under the UK system and there is production of some within the UK.

Unfortunately in the Republic of Ireland they are having issues and are a lot further behind.

The EU seem to have tried to go for a bulk buy system for all 26 countries to get the vaccines cheaper and it doesn?t seem to have worked out in all honesty.

The UK decided to go alone (ironically by using a clause in their EU membership before the Brexit deadline) and while they ended up paying more to secure the vaccines, they?re generally flying through the vaccine program.

Unfortunately with Ireland being so far behind us that could end up causing issues on the island with lifting restrictions p, particularly in border areas. Hopefully if the UK ends up with surplus (I think they ordered more than required to cover the population) a deal can be done to help Ireland for that reason.

Not much you can do regarding that unfortunately.

Glad to report my mom literally had no ill effects from the vaccine, and she usually has some level of malaise after most flu shots.

Thumbs up!

I don't get angry too much anymore these days, but the airbnb's operating on my floor are infuriating.

I saw a bylaw officer knocking on doors once so I started talking to him about the problem, he gave me his card and assured me he was "on it" but nothing has changed. I've attempted to contact him, but received no response. Closing bars has caused people to have thier parties in condos. The gatherings are still happening, but airbnb landlords operating illegally are profitting rather than business owners.
