Coyotes to stay in Phoenix, apparently

If they want to go to Heaven, they'll have to pay for it and that needs to be factored into the conspiracy theory math. When it is, it doesn't look nearly so rosy. If that's what they really wanted to do, all they had to do was walk away and start bidding on a new location.

Except, again, I'm not sure that there are teams that have leases that would allow that for sale or a league that's taking bids on expansion. Likewise, again, the price of the hockey team is certainly a consideration to the people in Markham or QC or Seattle but, and there is no better example of this than Phoenix, very often the bringing of a team to a new city is just a puzzle piece in a larger development scheme. From what I've heard about the plans in Markham that's definitely the thinking there, likewise in Seattle.

So, yeah, I don't think it's their first choice but I definitely think they have a pretty attractive out.

I wouldn't say this is over.  The fact the deal has several out clauses show the parties involved know it isn't over.  The business there is bad and this deal doesn't make more people want to buy tickets.

Well, nothing's happening for at least 5 seasons.

Well, this is over in the sense that the major issue, namely that the Phoenix Coyotes were being owned and operated by the league, has now been settled. They have an owner, they have a very favourable lease agreement and a 5 year commitment to stay in Glendale at least.

It's not over in the sense that what happens past those 5 years is up in the air but realistically that doesn't make the Coyotes different than a bunch of teams.
