D'Amigo traded to Columbus for Matt Frattin

Joe S. said:
when I have time I need to dig up the posts from last season stating the leafs overpaid for bernier by adding frattin and the multitude of posts that lamented his loss.

at the end of the day neither D'Amigo nor Frattin is going to make much of a difference to this mess of a team.

True dat.

is Orr really still on the team? I thought he and Mclaren were done...

They each still has a year left on their contract, so technically yeah.

At this point its hard imaging Orr NOT on the roster at least as the 13th forward.  I'm sure the Leafs sign one more player at some point to add to the forward ranks that would leave them with:

JvR-Kessel-Bozak
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
UFA-Holland-Frattin
Komarov-Ashton-Carrick/Leivo
I'm sure the 13th (or 14th) forward ends up being Orr.

The two guys I would be looking at would be Ott and Fiddler.  Fiddler serves a reasonable role as a replacement for McClement.  Good on faceoffs and can play on the PK.  If he is still available a few days from now his price will probably fall in line somewhere around/between Komarov/Boyle money.  It makes for an expensive bottom 6 (especially if Clarkson is a part of it) but the Leafs probably need a guy who can actually win faceoffs outside of Bozak.

Frattin just signed a 2 year contract.

I wondered about that when Nonis said they had just north of 15 mil to sign players, at that time capgeek had them at around 17. I wonder if it's him and one of Holland/Ashton that's signed?

Or he overpaid Frattin

Maybe he's already penciling in one of the young D? Granberg would do it.

Who really knows what the future holds for either Bernier or Frattin. For obvious reasons I know Frattin better than Bernier. I think he has the potential to become a top 6, perennial 25-30 goal scorer in the regular season for LA.

Sadly, last year's team was a better skating team than this years (losing Grabovski, MacArthur, Komarov, and Frattin doesn't help... the only good skaters we gained are Raymond and (to a lesser extent) Bodie up front... and Reilly at the back end.)

Bernier does look pretty good.  However, for me, I would prefer (cap space, draft picks, Scrivens, Frattin) over (Bernier, Clarkson).

I think not having these 3 players has been a huge detriment to the team this year:

Komarov
Frattin
Grabovski

All 3 could skate, wanted the puck and were not afraid to engage physically!

I'd rather they had traded away their 1st this year. Frattin alone is too much. He's gonna be a star. Book it.....

Matt Frattin has Dustin Brown written all over him.  Now he's going learn from the original Dustin Brown...

oh good lord

McLaren likely finds his way back to the AHL, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Orr used as the 12/13th forward.

Unfair man, those guys are going to have bounce back seasons:

@Hope_Smoke

Loiselle "last year McLaren broke his thumb in camp so he got off on the wrong foot & Orr hurt his knee."

Just tough breaks for them, could never get into the season you know?

And that same man can say, in the very next sentence....

@Hope_Smoke

Loiselle "you need to generate speed with that 4th line. The important part too, with the new icing rules, you can't get caught out there"

I was sorry to see Frattin go, but now I'm kind of sorry to see him back. I really liked D'Amigo.

This trade is definitely a loss as far as beard stats go, too.

I really like D'Amigo but like Frattin more. I think with the right coaching Frattin can be a very good player, he certainly showed flashes of it last time he was here.

I'd agree today with this.  Taken as a whole, I'd rather have (Scrivens, Frattin and cap space) over (Bernier and Clarkson).  Cap space is just too valuable to toss around and waste on the likes of Clarkson.

Sure, but, I really don't understand why Clarkson gets tossed in there when he was a completely separate transaction. The Bernier trade had absolutely nothing to do with signing Clarkson.

Some people are really after the prize for being the first poster to mention they don't like the Clarkson deal a thousand times. Sure, to you and me it's just a set of steak knives but to some...it's victory.

Yeah he looked like a good player on the way out.  Its understandable him not being able to get much ice time on a deep LA team.  He doesn't have much excuse for not playing well in columbus.  Let's hope he can turn it around.

He only played four games in CLS. 1 point and was a +2.
