Dave Bolland

I didn't see a proper Dave Bolland thread, so here it is...

Apparently the Blackhawks are having a video tribute for the man before the game tomorrow night. I guess not everyone can claim they scored a Stanley cup winning goal.

Now, if only he can become the first player to repeat that feat for two different teams, we'll really be on to something. ;)

Let's hope the boys can put together a solid game from start to end, and beat the champs tomorrow night!

Beside making us desperate at the center position, his loss will probably be felt as far as scoring depth goes. Good teams can pick the slack when important players get hurt. I really hope this is the case, but if he's out more than a few months, I'm guessing Nonis will be making some calls to see if there are any deals out there.

Well. This really sucks. Bolland was quickly becoming one of my favorite Leafs. He's now likely out for 4 to 5 months....

That does sound really terrible.

And not only is it a huge loss for the remainder of the season, but it could throw a wrench in the team's plans for whether they intend to re-sign him or not.

Best of luck to him.

Didn't Karlsson come back way sooner even though they originally said 6 months for him as well?  I'm not losing hope.

I think it was 10 weeks?

Not sure where you're getting 4-5 months from, when the article you linked to said this:

According to Jo Innes, an ER doctor who writes a regular sports medicine blog for The Score, a non-athlete would expect a recovery time frame of three to four months from such an injury, depending on the severity of the cut and what was affected beyond the tendon.

Athletes tend to have shorter recovery periods than non-athletes, because their bodies tend to naturally heal faster (which is part of what allows them to play the type of schedule professional athletes face). We're probably looking closer to 3 months than we are to 4 or 5. THat would put him back in the lineup around the Olympic break.

Two months before the playoffs begin will be fine.

I hope we're still in the race by then.  10-4-0 before he went down and 4-5-1 since by my count.

Yikes. The worse part of it is, 4-5-1 is reasonable for how the Leafs have looked in their past 10. I didn't think Bolland would be so valuable when he was signed, but he is easily  their most important Centre where the Leafs are at their weakest.

Was seen walking around the ACC today without crutches. On schedule apparently even though there is no schedule.

I believe it was mentioned on broadcast last game that he hopes for a return sometime in January.

Don't think any of us ever expected him to be this valuable to the team. They haven't been the same since he left.

I think it's a red herring.

There were too many unsustainable factors that were contributing to the Leafs winning that bunch of games early in the season.

I'm not saying that he contributes nothing, but I am saying that his presence wouldn't have dramatically changed their record of the past 10 games.

Yeah there's no way Bolland was going to keep shooting 22.2%. He would have helped, but fact is he was the teams 3rd line centre and good teams should be able to overcome a loss like that.

Indeed.

I get where you're going, but my point wasn't that this is a bad team that couldn't overcome the loss of Dave Bolland. It was that injuries shouldn't be an excuse for their struggles.
