I meant Kessel and his defence of Phanuef.  Guy all but says that he wants out.

Except that he really didn't. He defended a teammate and called out the media. Meanwhile, he praised the city and said absolutely nothing bad about playing for the team.

Also, this:

mirtle: Kessel was asked specifically if he wants out: ?No. I love Toronto. I love playing here, I love the city, I signed for eight years.?

These are the quotes I am referring to:

"The stuff he takes, the crap he takes, I'm just tired of it here."

"I love Toronto. I love playing here. I love the city. I signed 8 years but I just think enough is enough.

I suppose it could mean "I've had enough and I am taking a stand.  Criticism of Dion Phanuef ends today or your'll have to deal with me.  Did you see what I did to John Scott?"

But it sounds more like he just has had enough with the whole scene.

Okay, after listening to it again, I do think he is just standing up for his teammate and not saying he wants out.  The above quotes are also wrong...Here is what is on TSN:

"The stuff he takes, the crap he takes, the things people say, I'm just tired of it here. I think he's owed some apologies by some people. It's disgusting the way people treat him."

and

"I've had it," Kessel continued in a rant that lingered three minutes or so. "I think this city is a great hockey city and I love playing here, but some of the things that happen and Dion getting abused like he does and things that are said about him...he's our best defenceman. Watch him play. He plays hard every game for us. I'm just tired of him taking it."

Listening to it (which I hadn't done when I made my previous post) does give a somewhat different impression compared to the quoted article. More like he's tired of the media scrum than tired of Toronto.

Yeah, I agree.  In fact this challenge of the media was the 1st time I have seen Kessel of the ice with the media that I felt he wasn't awkward.  I am impressed with Kessel because of this.

Definitely, first time I heard Kessel care about something so passionately in a long time.  If he could only transfer that passion to his game...

Kessel is standing up for a teammate, but at the same time he seems totally defeated.  It will be interesting to see how he responds on the ice, but I wouldn't be surprised if he mails it in the rest of the season.  Maybe I'm wrong and he'll double his effort, but I don't think so.

I have no idea what to expect in return for Phaneuf. The length of the contract is a problem. I do think they'll have a better chance to complete a reasonable deal during the summer. Kessel should bring a very good return if the decision is made to move him. I do have to say, though, if I was considering acquiring Kessel, his performance over the past couple of months would put some doubt in my mind.

After his tirade today, I think he has to be moved.

I don't think Lupul's tweet was that bad.

I meant Kessel and his defence of Phanuef.  Guy all but says that he wants out.

Good. maybe we can get a 25 goal scorer who plays in both ends

And isn't afraid of his own shadow.  Just once, I'd like to see Kessel take a hit to make a play.  He can't win a board battle to save his life.  You just have to threaten to hit him and he coughs up the puck like a scared little girl.

That's not what Kessel was primarily meant to do when he was first signed.  His main job was and still is to score goals, which he excels at doing even though his production (this season)  has dropped.

He's a scorer, not even one who is accustomed to changing or tweeking his
style.  One-dimensional?  Quite possibly yes, but then his production is his signature and nothing else.

Welcome to TMLFans Al14! edit - even though you've been here longer than I have!

Do you mind rephrasing that last simile more constructively?

Just once I'd like to see Roman Polak score 30 goals.

If he did, it would be worth 10 million dollars to him!!!  LIRL

STL Today: Blues entertained idea of bringing Polak back
But the deadline passed and Polak stayed put.

"It would be kind of awkward if they bring me back," Polak said Friday. "It's kind of like, 'Why did they trade me in the first place? Now they're trying to get me back.'

"I heard there were lots of teams tried to. I don't know what happened. I wasn't ready for it, but I kind of expected I'm probably going to get traded ... but it didn't happen."

The Blues also had interested in Arizona's Zbynek Michalek, whom they wound up acquiring in a deal for prospect Maxim Letunov.

Michalek is currently out with a concussion. When he returns, he's expected to play with Barret Jackman ?Polak's old defensive partner.

"Yeah, that would be great and I would love it because they have a great team and I think they're going to do some damage in the playoffs," Polak said.

Easy on the little girl comments. I have a daughter who's the most fearless player in her all boy league. SHE rarely loses a puck battle and in most cases is much smaller than the boys she attacks. There's many other ways to call Kessel a wimp. Next time figure out a better way.

Ok, I acknowledge, not all little girls are scared little girls.  I should know better too, ascone of my little girls ended up being Athelete of the Year in middle school.  Her nickname, given by one of her teachers, was "Killer Chrissy."  ;)
