Devils @ Leafs - Dec. 4th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

Terrible play by Franson on the PK. Had control of the puck and plenty of time, chose to throw a weak wrist shot around the boards.

I'm not sure it should be brought up as a knock against him. JVR has played on the PK and he's not very good defensively.

Being poor defensively should be a knock him, yes. Especially when lots of people claim he's good at it and use his penalty killing "talents" as proof.

As for your JVR point, I think there's a subtle difference between being an effective penalty killer and being a good defensive forward. When you're on the PK it's more about staying within your teams structure and working hard. Almost anybody could be a good penalty killer. Look at somebody like Holland who was never really known as a shutdown forward. Being a good forward defensively, especially 5-on-5, requires a lot more smarts and better instincts.

The Leafs aren't as bad as that 9-2 thrashing at the hands of the Preds, but this game shows why they aren't as good as this latest little winning run seemed to indicate.  They aren't able to take a vulnerable team and put them out of the game, like a good team would.

Just further evidence that they're a decidedly mediocre team. Again.

That's not true though.  They did it to Buffalo earlier in the season.  They did it last game (seriously, it's very common league-wide for teams to do what Dallas did once down a number of goals).  They did it to Boston.  They did it to Columbus.

I agree with you on a couple of those, so point taken.  I was overstating the case.  Still, the conclusion that Busta drew was the one I was trying to point to.

I thought we were doing alright in the second. The the PK and they crapped the bed. Hopefully we can come out and win a period

I hope nobody in Edmonton's front office ever gets fired. Never change guys.

I agree, but, at the same time, it kind of suck seeing so many talented players languishing in a franchise that has no positive momentum and, seemingly, no plan.

Hall's really the only player on the team that I like. So if MacT is going to make a trade I'll accept him bungling that one.

Eberle and RNH are both talented guys - maybe a little over-rated, but talented. Draisaitl seems like a quality player. Yakupov is a bit of an enigma. Whoever they get in this year's draft will probably be better darn good, too. I'd also gladly take Nurse off their hands.
