I rewound and rewatched the shoot out and this is a fair summary. I think Bernier deserves the credit for staying out of the net and denying the opposition an opportunity to score.

I'll give him credit on the 2nd one for staying with the Devils' shooter and not giving him a good opportunity.

He gets credit on all 3 in my books. Even the Jagr stick handling debacle.....If Bernier does not stay out on him and backs in too quickly Jagr isn't forced to stickhandle in a phone booth and lose control.

Even a play where a player 'whistles it wide' can be credited to the goalie being in good position and giving the player a very small window to shoot the puck into.

Games against the Devils are so hard to judge. The Leafs look like they're playing a little better - though, they're still being outshot fairly substantially. Do the Leafs look better because the Devils also play a fairly passive game or is it because they're actually playing better? Really hard to say, though, considering how much time they've spent in their own end, I'd say it's more illusion than improvement.

Looking back on it, I think it was just an average game for the Leafs.  They didn't take an entire period off like they usually do but the play was largely in their own zone, and they got outshot by a wide margin.

New Jersey averages 26.1 shots/game and gives up 25/game.
Finals shots:  New Jersey - 38 SOG    Toronto - 25 SOG
Giveaways:    New Jersey - 12            Toronto - 22

I think they rebounded from the low of the Rangers/Carolina games, but I think they played another game where they let New Jersey have the puck for the majority of the game and spent far too much time defending rather than going on the attack.

Yeah, that's my view too. They miss 100% of the shots they don't take.

If only we could have 21 Jason Blakes on the team! That would show em!

But in all honesty. Sometimes it's better to hold the puck a little longer and take a better shot. The only problem is they're giving too many shots to their opponents. If we could lower their shots to the level of ours. Our style of shot play would probably win out over long haul.

Too bad our d coverage is ass.

I just read that it was the same ref who allowed Malkin's goal where he pushed Bernier into the net.

Hebert was a referee in that Pittsburgh game as well but not sure if he was the one who allowed the goal.  I guess both referees could have disallowed the Malkin though.

Yeah, I think that's where I'm at, too. They were their normal level of bad, rather than the extreme level of suck there were against the Rangers, Islanders and Canes.

If there normal level of bad eeks out wins, I wanna see the real deal!

When you are 47 games into the season and we can count the number of "good" games on half of one hand, I think it's more likely that they played at their normal level...which is bad.  Rather than they won while playing bad.  I don't think they have a level better than bad this year.

DeBoer came across as a bit of a dick in the post game interview. "[The Maple Leafs] are pretty fortunate they got two points. We feel a little bit robbed."

I think the Devils were lucky to get 1 point since they gave up more goals than the Leafs in regulation but one of them didn't count for no good reason.

He got all defensive about their shootout record too and tried to call out a reporter who said the Penguins practice them all the time. Then when it became clear the reporter probably knew what he was talking about, DeBoer made a lame Crosby joke and bolted.
