Dougie Hamilton

LuncheonMeat said:
Brian Burke was on TSN today ranting and raving about the media, and about teams leaking false information. He said a team called him and inquired about Hamilton, and then made an insulting offer. That team then apparently leaked the offer to the media. Burke threatened to out the team if they keep it up, and said he would consider trading Hamilton if a team offered him 20 first-round picks. Typical Burke bluster.

I never knew I missed a good Burke rant until I didn't have it for awhile. That parting remark was great.

It's funny that Hamilton was drafted by the Bruins because Burke traded away his first round picks for Kessel, now he wouldn't trade Hamilton for 20 first rounders.  Ok Burkie, keep it real.

I'm pretty sure he said something similar about Schenn while he was here.

I listened to the audio, Burke says team X leaked the Hamilton rumors.  Previously Kypreos had reported that both Arizona and Pittsburgh were kicking tires on Hamilton, I wonder which of the two teams leaked it?

Wait... who was Luke Schenn eventually traded for?

JVR.

I *may* be ok with a JVR for Hamilton trade, I don't think they would do it - straight up.

Nylander, Marner and Matthews are basically untouchable, IMO.

I can't see a deal like that happening during the regular season.  Trading a top 6 guy for immediate help on the blueline seems more like an off-season/draft type trade to make.  Most teams that would want a JVR would be teams in a playoff position that want to add more scoring.  Those types of teams aren't going to give up a top 4 D-man since they'll need him for the playoffs.

I could see a team that had high expectations of a Cup run but fizzled out in the playoffs in the first round wanting to shake up the team and adding a JVR in the summer.  In that scenario I could see a high d-man come back.

If JVR was to be traded this season to a contender, I would expect the return to be a young up and coming defensive prospect and a pick.  Not someone already established.

McKenzie I think was talking that trade last night.  How does it make any sense for Calgary?  JVR UFA after next year and Calgary is hardly going to contend in that time frame.  Hamiltion's contract goes for 3 extra years, that's huge.  Maybe he meant JVR on top of other pieces but it seems like they would have to be so significant that JVR would no longer be the main attraction.

I don't know why the idea of them contending is that crazy. They've gotten off to a terrible start but with JVR they could have a top 6 of

Tkachuk-Monahan-Gaudreau
JVR-Bennett-Frolik

and they'd still have the likes of Giordano, Brodie and Wideman on defense. If Elliott can give them competent goaltending that's a team that should be in the mix for the division.

I never knew I missed a good Burke rant until I didn't have it for awhile. That parting remark was great.

Brad Treliving did an interview this morning, where he also addressed the media rumors. We already know BB isn't a big fan of the Toronto media, but sounds like Treliving isn't either. That last line was said with a pretty annoyed tone, and appears to be directed at Toronto/Toronto media specifically. And after all the bluster, I still wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton is being shopped.

"I will say it's interesting ? I was at a game in Toronto and all of sudden ? I wouldn't read anything into that. I go to a lot of games. I was at a couple of other rinks after that and nothing came out of it. Don't believe all that you hear," he said.

"Dougie's an important part of this team. It's hard to find players of his ilk. I don't put a whole lot of stock into all those comments. We always look to improve our team but the comments that we're shopping a particular individual is completely false.

"We go to games all the time. It just seems like you show up in one place and things start to happen."
