Ducks @ Maple Leafs - Dec. 12th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

In 2017-18, Stolarz missed 59 games that season from two knee surgeries to repair a torn meniscus/medial collateral ligament tear
In 2022-23 Stolarz missed the last 30 games of that season after arthroscopic knee surgery (out 6-8 weeks)
Thanks - not sure why I couldn’t find this, thanks for pulling this up.

Love Pacioretty's work ethic. Whether checks or apples or cookies, the guy brings it every game.
Since his arrival, he's been talking about adjusting his game to the circumstances and needs of his team. He accepts his role isn't what it used to be. He's been forthright about off games - consistent in trying to do what his coach has asked of him while being critical of himself when he's fallen short. He's using that big body of his to hit, making some good reads while trying to be responsibly defensively. I did not know him very well before this season. My respect for him, his integrity and attitude has grown substantially. A team wants to add a veteran presence ... guys like this are who they want.

Muzz, Hildeby, McCabe, ROR, Timmins, Gio, Grebenkin, Minten, Akhtyamov, Sandin-(got us Cowan).....not all bad
Can’t really give too much credit to GMs for picks outside the 1st round. That’s basically entirely the work of the scouting department (most of whom were here prior to Dubas). Of the picks you mention, he really only had significant sway on Minten and Sandin.

And I wouldn't credit Dubas for ROR. He gave up assets for a rental that played about 4 to 5 weeks (if you include injuries he was off). If that's what is given credit then its more an indication of just how poor Dubas' performance was.

And Sandin wasn't a success. And Cowan isn't either, at this stage.

Yeah aside from finish you can't fault them this period.

Notable that the 4th line is getting skipped in the rotation....maybe playing guys who can't score isn't worth it
Reaves with a rub out hit gets mention from the broadcast. Minten lays out a hit that takes down the Ducks player seconds later....nothing.

Reaves gets cookies for existing

From Mirtle's Athletic article:

Thursday was one of the better games for the Leafs’ depth lines, too, even if it didn’t contribute on offence. That said, it’s very clear that Reaves should be the next man out of the lineup.

The 37-year-old has no goals, no fights and 1 point through 21 games. Lately, he’s been getting only six or seven minutes in games, to the point he’s second last in the NHL in minutes played among skaters with a minimum of 20 games played this season.

The Leafs’ fourth line is generating just 14 scoring chances per 60 minutes with Reaves on the ice, which is the third-worst mark for a forward leaguewide.

Fingers crossed.

I won’t blame him for injuries or for using pretty standard tactics that just about every contending team does. It didn’t turn into a big win, sure, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get credit for the work he did there.

His record with trades overall was a mixed bag. Not many he clearly won, but not a ton he clearly lost either. Basically always paid or received the going rate.

Let's not even mention what we gave up for some of these guys and Foligno isn't even mentioned. We paid a high price to pick up ROR, Foligno, Muzzin yet we gave Kadri away. I understand trying to improve the team at the deadline but in all retrospect it got us one round. Also I agree with some of the drafts it's not just Dubas deciding whom gets drafted. That's why you have scouts.

GMs just don’t have enough time to scout all the draft eligible guys. No one does. They’ll take a good look at the top 50 or so guys, but, beyond that, they give direction to the scouts on what to prioritize in their viewings and rely basically entirely on their reports. It’s often the head of scouting making the later picks, too.

Just with the signing of Stolarz, OEL and Tanev by Treliving I would say Tre has outperformed Dubas already.

But what counts are wins in the playoffs and ultimately Dubas inherited the greatest drafted talent in franchise history (maybe for any franchise ever) and the best he could deliver with his school boy fantasy architecture is 5 wins out of 16.

Better times ahead!

We hope. As much as we can sit on here and criticize Dubas the blame ultimately falls on the core who have shown year after year they aren't cut out for playoff hockey. Playoffs are a time to elevate your game and these guys haven't. Again let's hope.

I have actually come to love Treliving which surprises me.
Outside of Reeves (which he may have thought at the time was added muscle they definitely needed at the time) that his moves to solidify the D have been great.
Also great to see McCabe blossom under Bérubé and staff. I didn’t see that coming either

I wasn't a fan of the Reaves & Kampf contracts and probably a few other transactions in his first year.
His handling of Marner's situation is probably going to cost the team.

But his analysis and actions since the playoff loss otherwise, seem to have been pretty good for the short term. His contracts for the team's D are not likely to age well and will probably shorten the competitive window with Matthews. But they seem likely to get a 2 or 3 decent shots over the next 2-3 years.

I agree, we want to win now and I haven't seen a squad that I believe could do it until this year. With the cap going up, its going to be an interesting ride.
