hmmm....

"? You are viewing it with the benefit and lens of hindsight where it looks bigger now six years later because of what we know now than it may have looked at the time in the context of a myriad of other matters and issues swirling around, especially in the hectic period of on-boarding a new government," Wernick wrote.

I mean in fairness prior to the uncovering/digging up of the mass graves I absolutely just assumed the First Nations kids from residential schools all just went to a happy farm to live out their days.  What kind of bullshit nonsense statement is that.

That reads "we thought we'd still be able to cover everything up with money as we've been trying to do for the past 100 years regarding indigneous matters. Who would have known that it would have blown up in our face and we would have been exposed for the true monsters we were".

Residential school survivors knew what kind of monsters the church and government were. The Church and government knew it. Joe Public didn't and that's who they wanted to keep the information away from. So, with that said, is the government any less of a monster now than they were when they were promoting the residential school system?

Honestly, yes.

The initial act is the atrocity but every second that they send denying or covering it up after the fact should add on top of the initial heinous acts.

I agree 100%. They wouldn't

This poll probably has a ton to do with how the election played out. Going to be very tricky for the CPC to win over people if they have to "balance" the issue to satisfy their base.

That's very telling, though not surprising.

As an aside: what a terrible question. I am very concerned about climate change and its global effects.

Does it pose a threat to planet Earth? Not at all. The Earth will be fine. Its inhabitants, including all the innocent animals? That's a different story.

I think people generally understand the context of the question and that it's about current balances of the Earth. No one is saying "Well, it's not that big of a problem because the Sun eventually going Supernova is going to kill us all anyways so climate change is a much smaller deal."

I understand, and I don't mean to derail the general point. But as someone who's worked with expert consultants on survey and poll construction, it truly is a very poorly constructed question.

People like me, with OCPD, get very side-tracked by such bad questions. So, it's probably just a personal thing.

Carry on.  8)

Also worth mentioning that the same poll found climate change to be the #1 issue of importance across every age group.

Pandemic aside, in 2017 Hurricane Irma hit the North East Caribbean hitting wind speed of 289 KPH, unheard of speed and power.  Next week Maria came through with speeds of 250Kph again a super storm.
I can tell you first hand, these storms ripped apart concrete buildings, destroying almost everything.
Had my business was wiped out for a full year and never fully recovered as Covid arrived.
So is global warming a concern of mine, damn right it is and with the forest fires we saw in BC this year. My biggest regret is the last car I bought was not even a hybrid but a gas car.  I wish I had at least gone hybrid.

So Ford is scrapping licence plate renewal fees and stickers.  Sucks as we just renewed them being January babies, but at least it sounds like we'll get a rebate for that.

Which begs the questions -- what's the purpose of scrapping them besides it being an election ploy?  And conversely, what was the purpose of them in the first place outside of being a complete cash-grab revenue generator?

It's funny, the licence plate fee (tax?) I'm more ok with it as a government revenue generator. Don't want to pay it, Don't drive a car. A usage tax if you will.

The license card and plate renewals (and by extension, the drive clean initiative) all drive revenues back into the government budget to spend on things like road repairs, infrastructure improvements. The Drive Clean initiative was also to help mitigate the harmful emissions that stem from poor car maintenance.

Aside from being an election ploy to attract voters with shortsighted/selfish 'gains', wiping $1B+ from the provincial government spending power means cuts to social safety nets and infrastructure retrofits, etc. People will pay more elsewhere, while Ford can help his private business buddies make more money filling in those gaps.

It's just another "free pizza for everyone" ploy by the government looking to get elected to school council.

Did he not just cut tolls on the 404?

We like PIZZA! Woo Hoo.

Am I the only one cringed out by the election office ads about voter registration? "you can do it in the park, do it at home, do it...." I get the attempt at humour, but I could do without sexual innuendo in my gov'ts work.
