Federal Election 2019

And people don’t read anymore. They see headlines and draw their own conclusions, or get their news from reels, Tik tok and Facebook. It’s depressing. Facts don’t matter anymore.
Just to tack on to this, Facebook recently announced they were going to remove fact checkers, and people are lauding this because the belief is fact checking is nothing but opinion... which is literally not the definition of what a fact is. Argh. Winston Churchill once said "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." Now it's millions of lies all at once.

There were three front runner candidates jockeying for the Liberal leadership, and now there are two.

Chrystia Freeland, former deputy PM, and the straw the broke the camel's back of Trudeau's hold on leadership when she quit after the PM told her he intended to shuffle the cabinet and name Mark Carney as the Finance Minister in her place, is staying quiet for now.

The aforementioned Mark Carney, appeared on the Daily Show to soft-launch his campaign

Former BC Premier Christy Clark interviewed with CBC to disastrous results when she was fact-checked for denying ties to Conservatives (she registered as a federal Conservative to support Jean Charest), and dropped out today citing a lack of runway to do a campaign properly and her French being sub-par.

I really don't know why you'd want the Liberal leadership now. I think the next candidate has to be turfed after a period of not being in power before Canadians will warm up to the idea of another Liberal federal govt.

Don't like any of them but maybe because PP is a moron?
I'd prefer not to get into name calling. Just for the record I've voted for all three major parties at one time or another. I just think the Liberals don't have a chance to win the next election and may have a historic defeat. It's hard to see how the next candidate, who sort of becomes a semi-incumbent because they will be sitting PM, then tries to bring the party back.

I think most that voted Liberal before will do it again if they get a very good candidate and distance themselves from JT. Long time between now and Oct.

Not enough time to repair the damage without something major happening. Even a lot of long time Liberal supporters recognize that the party needs to get back to their more traditional positions instead of joining the exodus from the middle of the political spectrum. Going to take a good amount of time to rebuild the trust that has been damaged.

At best, a good new leader will mitigate the damage some, but, none of the best candidates will sign up for that job without some serious assurances that they'll be able to lead the party through at least one more election. If the damage is anywhere near what it looks like it will be right now, there's no way that will happen. The next leader is essentially going to be a sacrificial lamb.

Freeland... I am going to throw you under the bus before you throw me under the bus. Maybe they both can go under the bus?

How do you build a campaign, between March 9th and the election in the fall enough to turn the tides on what is already looking like a Conservative landslide? They couldn't manage it in the States. Why would Canada be different? Especially considering the democratic approval rating was better than the Liberal's at the time of the leader "stepping down".

Isn't it understood that the election will be in the Spring? All parties said they would vote non-confidence immediately.

Even if they can build enough momentum so that it’s a conservative minority should be, in my mind, a huge win.

Giving Pollievere a majority is a disaster. At least a minority he could be held in check.

I'm traditionally a conservative voter. That said, I agree that voting for Poilievre federally or for that matter, Ford provincially is a real tough thing to do.

Unfortunately, I think I'm in the minority of conservatives. I think a lot of that has to do with the "angry F' Trudeau" movement that stemmed from MAGA type politics. People are just angry, rightly or wrongly, about how the last 9 years has gone

I think rightly, this country is in a huge mess, we need fiscal responsibility and balance budgets. Germany has just cancelled EV production and we are over committing to it. We sell 60% of the oil that the US imports, why don't we use that as our tariff whip. Ya you can raise us 25% but our oil will cost 35% you more.

100000% this. I’d vote for a goat wearing a hat over that fear mongering, sound bite chasing jackass.

I also think a lot of people forget that this isn’t the ‘PC’ party - these are the yahoos from the reform and Canadian alliance parties.

Potato GM!
