Game Notes
CGY
-Dustin Wolf (22-13-5, 2.54 GAA, .914 Sv%) will likely start for the Flames
-Calgary is currently 2 points behind Vancouver for the final wild card spot in the West, and that's with them having 2 games in hand on the Canucks
TOR
-Joseph Woll (22-12-0, 2.78 GAA, .905 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-It's probably anyones guess what lines Berube goes with for this one after shuffling things both before and during the Ottawa game

We are at the point where I'm looking for process over results.

Florida just dropped back to back games to Montreal and the Islanders so the gap is still 4 points with 2 games in hand (but Florida has the tie breaker right now) but I care more about how the team is playing over results.

The PK needs to sort itself out. Starting on time needs to sort itself out. Blowing leads needs to sort itself out.

I wish they could fix the PK before playoffs. This is the major flaw going on post season.

To fix the PK would require ownership/management to make a decision to fix the problem: Replace Savard, Trade one or two players on PP1, Give many other players a chance on PP1, and even bench some PP1 players.

Not this franchise. It's all about 'hoping' things will change without doing anything substanial to fix the problem. Maybe they are not even aware there is a problem (bc cash keeps flowing). Who knows. It's getting boring to me.

None of this has anything to do with fixing the PK.

Florida definitely did us some big favours recently. Like you said 4 points back but with 2 games in hand. We also still play Florida twice more this season. Division is absolutely still up for grabs, but obviously we gotta earn it.

a) why is Kampf in the doghouse (or is it vet clinic because he's busted?)
b) zero patience at all for the spread lineup (because Marner can't hard carry Tavares?)
c) really curious to know why it looked like Matthews and Marner weren't trying until they were plopped back together

I'm really blown away by these lines. Is it really impossible for Matthews and Marner to go even 1 game not on a line together? Do we really need to keep seeing Domi play centre? Does Holmberg really need to keep playing in the top 6? Did we really give up a 1st for a 4th line centre? Does taking Kampf out of the line-up entirely really make a struggling PK better?

With that said I'm fully expecting a dominating Leafs win tonight because hockey.

It's unbelievable how little runway any stray from the above lines has been given. A first-round pick in the toilet again. Come on Berube? WTF?

I mean this is the way the organization has run. Matthews and Marner get attached at the hip (and in fairness for the most part its led to them being on track to be 1-2 in franchise scoring if Marner returns)

But its frustrating how there is never an appetite to make a consistent change. Good opportunity for Woll to put up a solid game and try and reclaim the lead in the playoff goaltender hunt. Stolarz is speed wobbling.

Back to the security blanket for Berube.

I will say one thing, I think Holmberg has been more effective than McMann lately (I was actually thinking maybe McMann should sit a game) but I still don't really like having him in the top-6.

And now we seem to have two over-priced 4th line centers in Kampf and Laughton, and a 3rd line center who can't play center. Brilliant!
