Flyers acquire rights to Mark Streit

I think Flyers fans are going to eat Streit alive. He is so a-typical for the type of players Philli fans connect with.  If things don't go well right out of the gate, it will look a lot like the first year Gonchar was in Ottawa x10. he was booed mercilessly for the entire season.

Watching Philli try to solve their defensive issues with money by signing a 36 year old guy on an over inflated long term deal is hilarious and awesome at the same time.

Goes without saying but will say it anyway (again): PHI will use its two compliance buyouts on Briere and Bryzgalov.

oh my god. The pure cash to buy out Bryzgalov is just mind boggling. Paying him to go away only 2 years after giving him that stupid contract just makes me LOL.

if I were Bryz I would retire and start a talk show in Philli.. hell, buy an entire radio station and have Bryz talk 24/7.

Pronger will be on LTIR which would drop them to $57.3 (given I think they're allowed to be 10% over until the end training camp) needing to sign a goalie and forward for a 23 man roster.

That's all true, though, Pronger counts in full over the summer. THey have about $5M to work with to fill out their roster and still leave some room in case of emergencies. There's still some minor moves for them to make, but, unless they move a contract, they're pretty much done in terms of moves of significance.

Is Briere done?

he didn't have a great year by his usual standards, but his injury problems along with the cap hit are probably the biggest concern.

He could be an interesting add, if he's willing to sign a short-term, cheap deal.

Here in Moncton we have been laughing about Bryz's contract and how he could never live up to the hype.  We felt if he tried to complete against Febreeze this is how it would turn out....especially with his personality (editing is done, I just need to master the audio):

I think I would seek alternatives and only agree to it if he's playing a depth role.

Makes you wonder if it was just the pressure that got to Bryzgalov or it was the contract or maybe it was just that goalies look better in Phoenix's system than they really are. I'd certainly think twice before betting on Mike Smith this summer.

Oh, I'm not saying he should be a priority or be handed a 1st line role or anything, but, if he'll sign a 1 year, ~$2M type deal, he could make for an interesting add. He can play on the wing and isn't awful in terms of faceoffs (just a touch below 50% in his career). He'd absolutely be a depth guy, but, he could be a great value addition. Also, he's money in the playoffs if the Leafs can get back there.

It's both, I think.

Couldn't handle the pressure, and went from a system that really sheltered him to one that didn't.

He'll go to Montreal where they're in dire need of a small fragile forward.

He certainly does have a knack for scoring big goals.  If you can get him in that sort of scenario, I'd be into it.  Kind of a fill-in / skill improvement on Mac, and maybe cheaper.
