Game 10: Leafs @ Capitals 7:00PM LEAFS TV

Doesn't matter who the coach is the PK has sucked for years.  They refuse to pressure the points and they get torched because of it, yet no one will address the problem.

Just stopped by to talk about this too. After tonight they drop to bottom 5 (all else being equal), which is once again a bit of a concern.

Nice to see them bounce back after a couple of tough losses though. I figured they'd have some OTLs by now...

Man Scrivens is not ready for this league. I know he's only let in 2 but man oh man...

Really? I thought he's played pretty well.

I think he's struggled to stay in control but he's done a really nice job of battling.  Can't blame him on either goal and he's made a few nice saves.  Certainly a good enough performance that you would want out of your backup at the very least.

He's battled, but I really think the score belies his actual performance. There were a number of times he was lucky to be able to get back into position, looked wobbly... I thought the ribeiro goal he had good positioning and it went underneath his glove.

I dunno, it was good enough for tonight against one of the worst teams in the league but this could've very easily been a 4-3 or 5-3 game.

I wondert what the ruling would be in a case like this.

A Leafs player lifts the puck up to clear the zone and it heads over the Leafs bench and is headed over the glass but a player (or coach for that matter) reaches up and grabs it before it goes over the glass. I assume the play is dead and there is no penalty, but think about it.... the guy on the bench prevented a delay of game.... could that ever happen?

If the officials felt the puck would have otherwise gone over the glass, it would still be a penalty.

Is that your gut feeling or are you sure?

On the one hand I would get that, but on the other it makes no sense at all.

99.9% positive. Players on the bench and coaches get penalized if they intentionally interfere with a puck in play. I don't see why this would be any different.

That's pretty close to how I felt.

He was out of his crease/position more than I thought he should be.

When you think of his last game, this was not a bad bounce back effort. And out of the 4 games he's played, he's only let more than 2 in once.

Reimer seems calmer but I can't complain about Scrivens play tonight too much. If he delivers at a pace of 3 out of 4 games, keeping the opposition to 2 goals or less for the rest of the season, I'd snatch that & run - even if he gets blown out every 4th game.

Yes Carlyle.  Play Orr with less than 10 minutes in the 3rd and a 1-goal lead.
Most of us can not uderstand why Orr is playing at all, let alone the 3rd period holding a 1 goal lead...

Most of us aren't NHL-calibre coaches. A lot of Carlyle's lineup decisions might be based on his hope of teaching players to play in certain situations more than him thinking they're currently truly able to do so.

And that's kind of the point.

Are you suggesting it was a good idea to put Orr out there?

If Carlyle wants Orr to become the type of player that he can trust out there with a one-goal lead, then sure. The point is to win, obviously, but this is still very much a work-in-progress. If Orr can't play the role Carlyle has in mind for him, he probably won't last long, but I don't recall Washington tying the game either, so ...

5-5 after 10 games and with your leading scorer skunked?  I'll take it.

That and we're missing Gunnarson and Gardiner on the back end.  Oh and no Lupul.  Things could be a lot worse I guess.

good point Zee. The potential is there to get better with everyone back and healthy.

Leafs are now tanked 27th on the PP and 26th on the PK.  Truly laughable.

Fortunately for them, they're also the 5th least penalized team in the league, and have the lowest PKs/game rate in the league
