Game 2 - Sens @ Leafs - Saturday Oct 8th 2011 - 19:00 EST - 6-5 Win

I think the point that needs to be made is that we need to settle on the right way to act as a fan and label the other way disgusting. Otherwise you'll have people enjoying and analyzing the game in whatever way heightens their own enjoyment of the game and we can't have that,

They haven't been helped by negativity either. If you want to cheer for another team, what's stopping you?

That's the way I see it. While it's okay to analyze the team and game the way you want, when I think of a fan, I think of unconditional support for their team. Threatening to bail on them because they haven't been as successful as you seem to think they should, isn't really going to do anything, it's your right to bail and follow the Boston Bruins if you so choose. Might as well go now and enjoy a team that is further along in development and may have a better chance at letting you watch playoff hockey. Personally, I'll stick it out and wait until my team is developed enough to make the dance and I'm sure the champagne will taste that much better during the parade, at least to me it will.

Lay on Macduff ( though without the prerequisites I fear you'll catch pneumonia... ).

I get why people are either up or down as a fan and I've had my moments too but yeah it seems weird to sort of dangle ones faith like a carrot when it just doesn't matter either way.

Blowing off steam I guess.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with criticizing the way the Leafs played in the 3rd period. If the sens were a better team, we wouldn't be able to think about celebrating a win.

I agree, much like the first period of the opening game as well. All I was saying, is that I don't much get threatening to leave the Leafs for another team, based on some mistakes or that they haven't won the cup yet. Who's really being threatened in this circumstance? The Leafs? Us on the forum? I don't really get it. Boston would probably welcome more support, see ya.

As the last pages of this thread suggest - you may have beat us on the scoreboard but we're definitely up 1-0 in the mind-games department.

Weak minded fools.

Uh, you're the only one who brought up switching teams or Boston. All the poster said was that they were sick of cheering for a losing team.

Yes, you managed the mind blowing feat of getting people on this board to argue.

...fear leads to anger...

Watching the leafs almost cough this one up was a bit frustrating...a few things though.... they didn't give it up..they never gave up the tying goal...which may seem like cold comfort but I think it counts for something...most importantly the two points.  I remember a few years ago ...with the likes of stajan and steen on the team that the leafs would have a few games like ottawa there to start the season.  They'd give up goals easy early but then score a bunch late..which the sens have done so far against the leafs and the redwings.  at the time I thought ..this is great...these guys never give up.  In the end though ..these almost comebacks didn't amount to much in the way of points..and the though process changed to ..why do we have to get up the first 2..3...4 goals in a game before doing anything.  So while this goes down as less than a pretty win for the boys in blue..it is a win....and sometimes those seem hard to come by for the leafs..no matter how bad the opponent...so I'll take it..and hope they learned a thing or two in the process...

You don't need to see his identification....

Boston was an example. Ok, so he stops cheering, see ya either way.

whats disgusting is some fans are now down to anaylzing how we could have lost a game that we won.

2pts!

Yeah because the Leafs have been so successful by celebrating these near-failures and seeing the positive in everything.  When have they made the playoffs last?  Oh but let's see the positive in everything, that's loser talk.  This isn't kindergarten where everyone's a winner :)

I'm sick of cheering for losers.  They better smarten up.

They could win every game 6-5. The wins column doesn't differentiate between blow out wins and close calls. Of course they need to tighten up - if they continue to have lapses the win could very well have been a loss, with more losses going forward due to sloppy defensive play, but I don't think you can chastise the team for winning. Not every win is going to be a blowout or pretty.

And really, it all happened in about 10 minutes of a game they played quite well for the remainder of.  If it is a common thing that keeps happening, then there is cause for concern, but it could just as easily be one of those fluke nights (the Leafs have done it to other teams *cough*Washington*cough*) that sometimes happens.

Washington and Tampa played a barn burner just tonight. It was like that the whole game, but the defense from both teams was nowhere to be found most of the night. I think any team is capable of what happened to the Leafs the other night, but it still left me a bit concerned. You have to play 60 minutes in this league and I'd prefer the Leafs tighten it up.
